First deer for my buddy

So my buddy got his first deer, he hunted a few times with his dad as a kid but was really never into it, went out last year and saw a few but no luck. we went out this year and he nabbed this 164lb 8 point. I am so happy for him.

In the woods 75 yards is long

Hunting a corn field 200 yards is long

30 30 levers are woods guns...scoped can get the job done out to 150 but most guys I know using levers are woods hunters and 35 yards is about average.

about 35 yards, the spot he was in was pretty open by NH woods standards and the max shot he could have had was maybe 100yards at best.

I just found out next year NH is going to allow pistol caliber rifles in the towns that are shotgun restricted so I am giving up on the idea of an AR upper and keeping my eyes open for 44 mag.
