Anyone own one? Moving to Florida, capacity is no longer a factor. The lady is 100lbs, not exactly strong. I'm looking for something with low recoil, easy followups, awesome capacity, decent power, for a toss on her nightstand gun that she feels comfortable shooting.

Sent from an illegal communications device deep within the bowels of an illegal detention center, yeah I've been black bagged.

I second this, if you could find one. FN is just for fanbois [wink]. Your wallet will hurt unless you reload x28 and the gun is a little big to carry. 30rds of 22mag is so much more appealing IMO.

The FN will give you around 1600 fps vs maybe 1100 ( if your lucky) out of the Keltec.

My gf's biggest issues are trigger pull, weight, and recoil in that order. I'm a bit interested in this as well...

Edit: Oops, this was meant for the op, not you

Look up hickok45 on you tube. He shoots and reviews both. At least it will give you some better idea of the two.

I plan on buying the pmr for myself down there, the fn is strictly for her. I want something she's totally confident in shooting accurately if someone busts down the door and I'm not home, and having that gun be capable of making short work out of an intruder. This is Not her carry gun, strictly night stand and just around the house (gotta love Florida, no storage bs and 100% stand your mother f***ing ground). I might carry it owb fishing for shits and giggles. FL has some OC.

How about a 1911 or bigger DA (like Beretta 92) in 9mm? Low recoil, easy followups, and it doesnt matter how bulky it is since its a nightstand gun. Plus, ammo is abundant and cheap unlike 5.7

I wouldn't give someone I care about a .22 magnum equivalent for self defense. Ever. Unless they were so completely, utterly incapable of operating anything else. (and that's likely a stretch in most cases, unless we're talking about someone who's very old/broken down. )

I think something like a Beretta Cheetah or a revolver in 327 mag would be a better choice. Of course, the FN is extra cool because you can't get one here in Mass.

5.7 ammo is way too expensive and hard to find, and the ammo they DO sell to civvies is much tamer than the military loads the gun was made for. I'd rather use .38 special or 380 for self defense over 5.7 to be honest.

If you're going to a free state you can buy one like new cheap and have 20 round mags, so yes, you should get one. Got mine Tuesday and bought a small supply of FNss197 and and Federal 40 gr FMJ. The ammo was $30 and $35 before tax. The gun looks like the offspring of a Cz52 and a Glock 17 and very high quality plastic. The plastic is sort of like a lightweight alloy and feels good, tho not a big fan of plastic guns. The controls all work well. The trigger is better than average for this kind of gun. The FN ammo was accurate, Federal not. I could shoot a 3" group with the FN stuff from sand bags at 25 yards. It could have been better. I load and shoot lots of 45 auto and do not adjust to the snappy recoil of a 9mm and this is the same for me. Somebody really good with a Glock 17 or similar pistol could get better results. The recoil has snap and flash, but it's easy to manage even if a little harsh. I like the cartridge a lot but have no idea how "lethal" it is. I am not military and I have never been a gun carrying LEO, so I have nothing to say about that. To me 5.7x28mm is a new take on 1890's rounds like .30 Borchardt, .30 Luger (big fan of this one) and .30 Mauser/763 Tokarev, all designed for high velocity pistol carbines. The ammo is light and carrying a box of several hundred rounds feels like nothing. I also have no idea whether it's a good self defense weapon - I guess it could be, especially with free state mags. Note that the FN handbook recommends against carrying this single action pistol with a loaded chamber, but maybe that's just lawyer insurance. As for being a controversial gun, why? With no AP legally available, then this is just another low to medium power round. This gun would be great to take into the woods on fishing trips - lightweight gun and ammo, easy corrosion protection, accurate, etc. I think you could get one of these in florida for about $900.00, so I say go for it! As for hand loading, I may try but am not looking forward to it, given the high pressures and close tolerances for charge weight, the plastic coating on the cases and the unavailability of a shell holder for my case trimmer. If anyone has experience reloading 5.7x28, please PM me or post.

PS As for the nightstand, why use a handgun when you can have a rifle?

For a nightstand why use a rifle when you can have a shotgun?

If she's not comfortable with low-recoil 12 gauge 00 buck, maybe something like a 20 gauge shotgun, loaded with #3 buckshot?

They make an upper for that.

Yesssss!

Yessss, an AR57 upper! That would be a good nightstand weapon, especially with hollow points that won't penetrate too far. I also liked the PS90 that I saw when I bought the "Five seveN" but a Mass-legal pistol was already too money to sink into this caliber. I'll post my results when I've tried reloading whenever True Blue or Accurate 7 becomes available again. BTW, does anyone know where there's heavy bullet .223 powder in stock like RL15, N140, N540?

5.7x28 is starting to show up in stock, at only slightly inflated prices.
As of Nov 2nd, Cabela's has 5.7x28 for $22/box and a $5 shipping coupon good until 11/5.
No more 5.7 at that Cabela's link, looks like we bought all their 5.7x28.

I noticed Shooter's Outpost had about 20 boxes in the display case on Friday, last I checked they wanted $28/box.
