This might be old news to some people, but definitely new to me.

Right before the wife got laid off, I'd found a bunch of places that offered quantity discounts down to about $8/ea including shipping for Gamma Seal lids for 5 and 6 gallon pails. I was looking around a little more locally, since she's digging into the bulk food more often now and we can't afford a bunch of them right now. Turns out they've got them at Home Depot, and for less than the discounted prices I was finding online!

$7, available in the store.

Don't go buying them all on me, now. There's only about 250 of them in stock in central MA. [wink]

Nice, thanks. I picked up a bunch of food grade pails at Lowe's this week, for $4 each, but it would be nice to put gamma seal lids on at least a couple of them. I'll have to take a look tomorrow.

Which Lowes pails are food grade? I was under the impression that all of the Lowes and HD buckets were not food grade. I've been buying my plain white ones from Wal Marty.
Nice find, I use these for home brewing, makes bucket fermenters air tight. Thanks
Didn't even think of it...but that's awesome. Definitely a better option than the standard lids - I always ended up getting extra sediment when the bucket got shaken a little.

One thing to watch out for - I filled several of these yesterday, and used a Sharpie to label them. A little while later I was moving them around and I found that the Sharpie on the lid would wipe off just like a dry-erase marker. I stuck a piece of duct tape on each lid and wrote on that instead.

The Sharpie on the bucket itself stayed just fine, but not on the lid.

I have some food-grade buckets from Lowes, and from when my family made some wine. I was looking online at getting some Gamma Seal tops, and found this thread.

Is there a need for a food-grade top? Is there any difference between the Gamma Seal tops at Emergency Essentials and Home Depot?

Thanks,
Tony P.
