Since we're rained in today, I pulled some Garands out of the safe. Below are 4 front sights (L-R) SA (.647), HRA(.750), WRA (.815)and IHC. (.850).

I use a WRA front sight on my match rifle (not pictured). It also measures to .815.

When discussing replacing my filed down front sight with Larry (Head CMP armorer) he gave me the following information, which I posted in my thread:

Larry told me that the front sight was often flied down to achieve zero during rebuild. As to width of the entire sight, he told me that: "the difference in the sights is the width of the sight wings, SA approx. .682 [in]wide, WRA approx.. 805 wide, HRA approx. .695 and IHC approx. .870."

I pulled a few more rifles out of the safe.....

* Springfield 1.8m SA 5-65 Rebuild - IHC front sight - .870
* Winchester 2.4m SA 2-65 Rebuild - IHC front sight - .855
* HRA 5.5m, believed to be correct - HRA front sight - .725
* IHC 5.?m, RRAD 12-64 rebuild - SA front sight - .625 !
* SA 3.3m, CMP Field Grade - SA front sight - .670

It's generally accepted that the order from narrow to widest is SA, HRA, WRA, and then IHC.

I did read that SA sights will vary - as evidenced above.

I also prefer a wide front sight. I have one bookmarked on eBay if my Winchester does not have a wide Winchester front sight.
