Anybody see one of these in person yet? Exact same electrical specs as the Honda EU2000i for $200 less, 3-5dB quieter and assembled in the good ol' US of A.

I've been looking at the Hondas for some time, but hadn't pulled the trigger.

$200 less?

At electricgeneratorsdirect.com (which generally has the going rate "street price" rather than MSDP), it's $530 vs $999.

General is not in Hondas league. Long after you have thrown that Generac away the Honda will still be starting on the first pull every time.

maybe, just maybe probably you're right.....but damn, its American and it's cheaper. This could be the day we're all waiting for!!!!

I cheaped out by buying a kipor, which is supposedly an EXACT knock off of the Honda. Was 300 less. Very well made. Runs very well. But takes quite a few pulls to start ,especially when the weather or it is cold. I keep stabil in it, and make sure to run it every 3 months, but I bring it inside to warm it before starting in the winter.

I don't know if all kipors are like this or just mine.

For what I use it for, I am happy with the savings, it is OK to take 5 min to get started, but I have never heard of a Honda doing this.

If you need super reliability, go Honda. In 3 years we will know if this guy can stand with the Honda. If not critical need device, then the savings might be worth it. YMMV.

Most of the reviews look good. Does look like they're having some quality control issues under the comments but there's posts from reps emediatly solving issues. I know Honda makes a good generator but I think I would look into this one for 200$ less. The big generacs can be hard to turn over but don't forget this one is 1/4 the size of the big ones and would hopefully be easier to turn over IMO.

Honda makes a good product no doubt. I have 3 of the GX390's on several pieces of equipment. It's the best small I've ever owned but it retails for over 800 with electric and a 20a coil. You can buy a Chinese knock off with the same spec's for 250! Yes the Honda will still be around long after I throw the knock off away but is it really worth over 3 times the price.

Hondas are good but for the price they charge they should come with a mechanic to start them for you every time you need it?

Generac makes top quality stuff. I think if I wanted one of these little generators i would get the Generac over the Honda even if the price was the same. Generac only makes generators so they should know how to do it right and their engines are top quality.

I have the Honda and you would have to produce something pretty special to convince me to try something else.

I have owned my honda 2000i for 5 years now. I spent 18 months of weekends running power tools with it for 12 hours a day...big loads lots of idle time. The past 2 years its been sitting in a deck box outside and runs every day between 5 minutes and 3 hours. One time it ran upside down for 2 minutes when it melted the snowbank and tipped over (very bad).

In all that time I have changed oil and knocked the dust off the air filter. I wish Honda would produce one with remote start...

When the honda ****s up it can be fixed. The knockoffs are dead when they're dead because the clones aren't perfect clones. the Kipor is an example of this. Friend of mine has one and the thing will only run right with the auto idle disabled... carb is ****ed up and the small engine guy he uses that's fairly reputable couldn't fix it. Does it still work? Yes... but it's days are probably numbered. He bought an EU3000is now to replace it and it's been flawless. IMHO in the inverter class Honda and Yamaha are the two best. Generac might work out okay, never know. Their screamer AVR gensets are very solid but they are ****ing loud.

Honda and Yamaha gensets are pretty solid. If Generac can make a decent unit in inverter class, then it's probably a good choice. At least you can probably easily get parts for generacs, which is more than anyone can say for the chinese throwaways.

I have a 8000KW Generac and the thing runs my whole house with no issues. Start it once a month or so. We have only needed it 3 times but it starts right up and runs mint. It is loud but it does the job.

On Youtube theres a few Generac guys that have been building huts for them out of those plastic sheds you can buy, they muffle the noise pretty well while still keeping the thing from overheating, etc. The problem here up in the Burg is when someone is running a screamer you can hear it for about a mile.

I used to install a lot of Generac standby generators. I would not touch one anymore. If someone wants a whole house generator I will put in a Kohler or they can hire someone else to put it in.

Hi-Point only makes guns and I would never buy one.

+1

If there is an extended outage, 7+ days, and you have a loud generator you need to be proactive in making sure it doesn't go missing.

This was my thinking. Also the American designed and made (well, assembled) is a plus. Whoever it was that said they only touch Kohlers now - I agree those are great products (designed with my software!). Interesting that these two companies are only a couple hours away from each other in Wisconsin.

Briggs & Stratton also makes a 2000W inverter. https://www.briggsandstratton.com/u...00-powersmart-series-inverter-generator-30553

We put a 14KW Kohler at our house in Goshen. It was only $4-500 more than a Generac and like Honda, everyone swears by them.

For home use I copied someone here who ran two EU2000's for eight days. A Companion, regular EU2000, and connector cables. When the Generac has 300 reviewers I'll look at them.

There is one new in box on cl for 450 cash. I think im gonna give it a shot.

LOL, I have 3. 1 (8000KW) I bought and the others I got for free not running. 15 minutes or so and they both run fine now.

Let me guess, carbs gummed up with shit? [laugh] "Oh it doesnt work anymore, doesnt start, ill just throw it away." lucky bastard... I'm not even that mechanically inclined and I can fix that stuff. [laugh]

One was a carb issue and the other was the victim of someone "adjusting the valves" who didn't know what they were doing. I pulled the cord and it just spun, no compression at all. The exhaust valve was 2 turns to tight. Backed it off and it started right up, runs like a champ.
I love working on this stuff. I have a line on a 4 year old Ariens Snow Blower and a riding lawn mower that wont start. I think I am going to get the pair for 100 bucks

Awesome. We got a chain saw and a leaf blower for free. He said the chain saw "Didn't work well," and the leaf blower wouldn't start.

The chain saw (a cheap Poulan) worked a lot better when the chain was installed in the right direction! Dumped out the old gas and put fresh MOGAS and oil in the blower and it started right up!
