Glock 17 assembled without guide rod assembly

I'm an idiot. Just cleaned my G17 gen4 and put the slide on and the guide rod assembly is starring at me on the table. I'm not able to push the slide forward using the takedown levers. I tried pulling the trigger and pushing the slide forward and still no luck. Please help!

Try pressing slightly on the top of the barrel to get it to cant normally.

ETA: over the chamber.

Yes. I can fully pull it back without any tension or resistance. When I pull the trigger, the slide will just loosely pull back about 1/4 of the way.

Hold it upside down and pull the trigger with your pinky while trying to disassemble.

It just came off. I had someone else press the take down levers while I pushed down on the barrel and pushed the slide forward. Thank you both for your help!

Lol! I did this with my Springfield XD a few years ago, just to see what would happen. When it didn't immediately come back off there was a bit of a panic attack, but I eventually fixed it hahaha

I did the same thing. I almost died because neither were mine. LOL
