I was just wondering, if I use a 9mm conversion barrel can I use my standard G23 .40cal mags or do I have to use G19 9mm mags? Has anyone tried using the regular mags and has anyone run into problems using 9mm ammo in .40 m mags?
I know the common sence answer is "Just buy a G19 mag."
My question is more of a technical rather then practical.

i use a lonewolf 40 to 9mm conversion in my G23. the .40 cal mags will work, i just don't recommend using them, especially if they are carry mags.

i use my 10rd Glock 17 mags [smile]

no issues to date. be aware of erratic ejection, wear your PPE

G23 Mags will usually work but the feed lips are slightly wider apart than on 9mm mags. If you are just using the conversion at the range I would try the 40 mags but if you are carrying then the swap to 9mm mags is pretty much mandatory.

I wouldn't recommend carrying with a conversion barrel. Not sure on the Glock but my .357 Sig P229 works fine with the .357/.40 mags and a 9mm conversion barrel. Ejection is weak due to the stiffer spring but it works fine for range use.

just to clarify, i don't carry it with the conversion barrel. i personally don't use my carry mags with 9mm ammo either...

This weekend I tried out my conversion barrel with standard mags. And after looking at how the rounds sat (almost 45 deg angle) and that it jammed right off the line I stripped the rest of the mag and reloaded into the G19 mag. Not a single jam after that, just one bad primer.
This should help me save some $ on my practice, not I just need some more G19 mags.
