Well, its time dench finaly buys a pistol. the M4A3, WASR-10 and M38 Mosin need a new friend i think.

originialy, i wanted to get a H&K USP .40 Compact, but im not in the mood to pay $850+ for a used pistol. (thanks to billk for breaking my heart and refusing to sell me his! booooo! haha)

so i looked on the computer here and noticed that glock also makes a compact .40, the g23. to be honest i dont remember if ive ever fired a glock, i know ive fired about 50 rounds through a USP .40 thou so i have nothing to compare it to.

what are your views on the g23 in place of the gun i cant have?
i have zero experiance with glocks.

Personally, if you really want a 40 caliber, I'd recommend a G22 over the G23. Do you really want the compact version? If you are not going to carry it, you'd be better off with the G22. Either way, you should consider trying them before you spend your money. If you want, I'd be willing to meet you at a match, or at my club in East Providence and let you test fire both the G22 and G23 if that will help you.
-Cuz.

i intend to use it for carry only, thats why i wanted a compact.

Are you open to other compact 40s? If so the Smith M&P compact and Walther P99 compact are worth trying too. You're welcome to try my M&P compact in 9mm if you want.

I'd take a Glock 19 over the 23. My Glock 23 has a fair bit of recoil. The Glock 19 will be easier to shoot. 9mm ammunition is cheaper than .40, and modern 9mm defensive loads are acceptable.

The other thing about a G19 is if one feels undergunned they will easily take
hot 9mm ammo without even breaking a sweat. A lot of guys run
Speer 124 +Ps and the Win Ranger 127 +P+ load in theirs with no trouble.

The only problem with Glocks I've ever had was reloading. They do not like reloaded shells for some reason. I put 50 through my G19 and with almost 25% of them, the cartridge jammed inside the chamber after shot was fired.
They were not hot loads, and the brass was once-fired magtech.
I had to take the slide off the frame each time and slip the barrel down and out and punch the brass out! And yes, as stated, I noticed the G23 has considerably more recoil than the 19.

That's strange.... I dumped a ton of my 9mm reloads down the gullet of
my buddy's G19 and it had no trouble. Even the power pistol loads that
my X-Five won't eat, his G19 had no trouble with them.

Strange again,, the same batch of loads that were finicky in my G19, ran perfectly in my 92FS.
So I should clarify, my G19 did not like reloads.

huh, well I'm glad others have had no problem with reloading them.
Maybe the lead was seated too deep in the re-loads I was using and stretched the mouth? [thinking]

Like some others, I prefer 9mm in the compacts and sub-compacts. (Glock 19, and Glock 26)

I owned a 23 and like all Glocks, It will always go bang, never let you down, require little upkeep, and hold it's value well. Personaly, I did not like the snap of the 40 cal. G23 and opted to go with 9mm.

I view the Glocks as a "platform", I own several 9mm models and every one of them can use the magazines of their larger brothers. (ie. using the Glock 19 mag in the Glock 26). Plus, the functions across all models are exactly the same. Learn one gun, and you have learned them all. For someone who might carry a "Primary" weapon and a "Back up" this can be very important. You could carry a full size Glock 17 in a shoulder holster and a sub compact Glock 26 on your ankle. If all your extra magazines are for the Glock 17, no problem, they will run in the Glock 26.

Having said all that, take a look at the Smith M&P's. Once you get a decent trigger job, and remove the mag disconnect, you have a pretty nice weapon. (Glock like) They are widely available, priced well, and backed up by Smith's lifetime warranty.

You are welcome to shoot mine anytime.

Medford actually gave you an unrestricted license?

Sorry off topic :(
