I'm debating between the two above guns for off duty concealed carry. I'd like the 10 rounds of .45 but is it worth the weight and size trade off? Anyone with personal experience with both? Thoughts?

Neither gun is really in the same size class. I own a G26 (same size as the 27) and a G30SF. the 30SF is an order of magnitude larger. Both are pretty easy to conceal, though. I carry one or the other on a regular basis. So it's really a matter of what you want. I would say if you are getting the 30, get the 30SF unless you have oven mitts for hands. That 2mm or whatever it is actually makes a big difference.

I think so. Dimentionally their not that far off. Their both high recoil guns. I'm not a big .40 or G27 fan . Snappy as heck. I've found the .45 to have the same or less recoil & more accurate over all.
Their both more than adequate calibers for the job. I'd say go with which ever one you find the most manageable.

Yeah I carried a 27 for a few years as an off duty/court gun but now I'm considering going with the bigger G30sf. I'm a pretty big guy so neither is going to stick out on me too much, but I have yet to compare them side by side or in a holster so I thought I'd ask for input.

For us it made a difference on whether we were buying our own ammo to qualify with a backup/off-duty pistol......

I had a G27 (when we had Sig 2340s for duty guns) - worked flawlessly, small enough to carry on the vest on duty, concealed easy off duty, but I never really liked it. I have pretty big hands, and the grip just felt too small to me. We switched to M&P 45s recently, and I sold the 27. I haven't bought the 30 (yet) but I have fired it, and the slightly bigger pistol feels better to me. I don't think the size is different enough from the 27 that it will affect carry at all. I liked the extended baseplates for the G27 better than the flush ones as well. I would say which ever one fits you better would be the way to go.

With out getting into a caliber debate, I would say see if you can shoot both, and make your choice based on what is easier for you to shoot.

I carry a G29 and I prefer it because it is a larger gun, it is easier for me to shoot then my buddies G26, I do have big hands though. I have no problem concealing it with a C-TAC IWB holster, and a 15 round mag in a Bianchi single mag pouch that looks like a leatherman pouch.

[thumbsup] -for making this a hand thread. [rofl]

as for the OP... i'd go with the .45 ACP. Glock 30.

Our policy only requires off duty guns to be inspected and approved and a course of fire for familiarization. It doesn't require annual qualification so ammo isn't the issue.

I'm leaning toward the G30 as I have large hands.

I have owned a G30 for about 5 years. It is blocky and decent sized but I've also found it very accurate and very light recoiling (and, not surprising, 100% reliable).

How does the 21SF compare to the 30SF? I was looking to get a hi capacity 45 and considering the 21SF.

I own both. The 21SF is not really a carry gun, per se, but I suppose with the right holster, belt, etc, anything is possible. It's a lot bigger than the 30 is, especially in the grip length department.

Carry the one thats most similiar to your issue weapon. If your lucky your issued a Glock so any and all training the Dept provided would be applicibale to your off duty weapon. If Possible carry the same ammo as what the dept issued you, unless they issue some type of crappy ammo like wolf etc.

I highly recommend the G29 :-). I recently decided to snag a G20 to carry instead with the 29 as a back up. As the Black Eyed Peas song goes "boom boom pow" :-D
