Is it still too soon to depend on Gen 4 Glocks? I know some parts have been replaced due to misc problems, but even with the updated parts, what is the general feeling about Gen 4's? Since the fixes, is the brass ejecting properly? Are they more dependable, or are we better off with Gen 3's?

All my gen 4s work great. If you were getting a 26 or 27 there were no changes in the spring anyway.

I think at one point the full and mid size 9s had to stiff of a spring. Other than that it's mostly just internet hysteria. I really like the mag release on the gen4. Other than that and the extra mag there's not a hell of a difference. The new stainless springs look less cheesy than the plastic guide rod spring in the gen 3. But that design worked fine for years.

I wont touch gen 4's personally after 2 gen 4's had stovepiping fte's and brass all over the place including into my face , my gen 3's no problem...

There was no "internet hysteria"- at one point a lot of the Gen4s were seriously ****ed up. I know I had 2 of them that were that way.

My G17 Gen4 was a pain in the ass (stovepipes, brass off forehead every other shot) until I sent it to Glock. They fixed it and it has been perfect, couldn't ask for a better pistol. Now it runs great. The G21Gen4 that I had was a POS and Glock had to send me a new gun. When it came back it was fixed, so I can't complain about that. The G26Gen4 I have is the only one that has been flawless out of the 3 , but that would make sense as the design changed the least there.

My experiences would not deter me from buying another one, but anyone who says that the Gen4s didn't have serious problems when they were introduced is being a little ignorant of history. [grin]

My Gen4 G19, has been flawless since I changed out to a stainless gen3 guide rod. 100's through it, without a hicup. For my own piece of mind, I threw the original guide rod in, mid range session, and problems were back. It was a $30 something fix from amazon.com

You shouldn't have to do that. Did you get a replacement from Glock through the RSA exchange program yet? It costs nothing.

I called, gave them the SN# and they told me it had the updated RSA, ans the numbers matched also, but it was still horrible. So I went about my own fix.

Something is still broken with your gun then, I would say, but if you are happy with the Gen3 spring assembly then so be it. I know I might be tempted to do the same thing in that position.

only problem I had was the occasional stovepipe, and multiple shards of brass stuck in my forehead. Really, I was bleeding at one point, pretty funny when I came home and my wife saw it.

Reading things like this when I researched my last purchase pushed me away from the G4's. The G3's were/ are perfect. Almost all or them ran the balls out of the box & right from introduction. The G2's are great too.

Galston made 100's of thousands of those things before the G3's even came out. Just like any other industry things need to change. Now some new generation egg heads at Glock decides to re invent the wheel & shits f'd up.

When I had the G17 before I got it repaired I had a half a dozen char marks on my forehead from the G17 that I had to clean off every time I left the range.

There's absolutely no reason to jettison gen3 for gen4. Unless you really like the mag release or something. I had gotten rid of my gen 3s is the only real reason I bought gen 4. They are worth more should one need/want to sell is a consideration. But i like the ruger sr series for carry because of the trigger, price, and reliability so I'm finding myself with less Glocks. Ruger is USA made too.

I certainly wouldn't get rid of a Gen3 to get a Gen4, but if I were shopping for a Glock that wasn't a replacement for an older Glock, I'd go ahead and get the Gen4.

We ran 8000 rounds thru a Gen4 Glock 22 at our range in 2 weeks without cleaning. It ran like a top, perfect. No jams, stovepipes, misfires, etc.

I had a Glock 22 Gen 4, put about 800 rds through it, not one hiccup(Feb '11, before the new RSA were released). Couldn't be happier, and I also have Glock 23 Gen4, with same results, 700rds down the pipe and not one failure of any kind. 100% reliable, 100% satisfaction. I've put all diffrent kind of ammo, And they ate it up…wwb, umc, blazer, Tula, etc…The 23 did come with the new RSA.
