what, if anything, has anyone done to reduce the weight of the Gen4 triggers? my G4 19 trigger registers almost 6.5# despite the 5.5# specs from factory. 6.5# seems like a lot for a semi auto IMO

I am in the process of fitting a Ghostinc. Rocket connector I got it with the full wolf spring set.

So far having just roughed it in (filing the overstop tab down) and installing the wolf trigger and striker pin springs it feels really good. I still need to polish all the parts up a bit to smooth things out. When this is done I probably won't use the striker spring.

I went back and forth over what to get since I didn't want too light a trigger. But it seems like this will work out.

Edit: BTW the over travel stop really works and cutting it the slanted way Does seem to help reset.

the popular "theory" is that it's the bump on the trigger bar giving that extra #. Not sure if I buy that.

I've put a non-Gen 4 trigger bar in and although improved I'm not sure it's reduced it by a full #.

I do recommend the Ghost.

Bump may contribute, but I think it has to do with the 5 degree difference in the connector angle more.

i like the sounds of the Rocket and the wolf spring set up however i think i am going to try and change out the connector to the Ghost Ranger 4.5# and keep the rest stock. i like the trigger reset and minimal overtravel, however if it doesnt get the trigger close to the 4.5# region i may go with your set up Flyer. let me know how it pans out if you can. anyone done just a swap of the connector to the Rnager 4.5 # connector??

I also wanted to get in the 4.5 area. When I found out about the 5 degree angle affecting the rating, I figured that the 3.5 would give me this. When I was roughing it in (you have to do some fitting) using the stock trigger spring, I didn't notice that big a drop in weight. Thus I went with wolf spring. This brought it down to where I think I will like it but I figured why not throw the striker spring in also and try it. With those two springs and the 3.5 connector I think I am around 3.5#'s now.

Remember, the 4.5 ranger might get you to 5.5# with stock spring due to the 5 degree mount issue. I was originally looking at the 5# Tactical to get the over travel stop. But then researched that it wouldn't drop the weight enough.

FWIW, I did the Ghost with the Wolf springs (kept the glock trigger spring), and put in a smooth trigger/trigger bar (hate the grooved trigger). I have a 4.25# pull. It's pretty darn nice.

So you replaced the striker and plunger springs? 4.25 sounds great. Good solid reset?

Edit: any polishing?

yup. I'm really happy with it.

I haven't done any polishing at this point. It only has about 300+ rounds through it. I want it to get a little break in. Then maybe I'll play with it a bit more. But there's really not much room for improvement IMO.

yes, got it from Cheaper Than Dirt: GHOST Rocket 3.5 TCT Trigger Installation Kit Six Piece Set

I was impatient and did the job by not taking the whole assembly out for all the trimming, and managed to stress out the trigger spring (a Glock armorer I am not [thinking]). So I ended up having to use the stock spring. (this is just a caution to those who watch a youtube and see folks who don't take the whole assembly out...[sad2])

If I place an order some day and see a Wolf spring to add in, I may do so just to see what the difference is. But I am happy with how it is now.

Good point.

To clarify Amazon, you are running a Gen 4 with
3.5# Ghost rocket connector
Stock Gen 4 trigger spring
Gen3 or less smooth glock trigger with bar
Wolf Striker spring
Wolf Firing pin safety spring

that's it! [cheers]

I took mine down to 5 lbs by having a local armorer replace the connector with a Scherer 3.5 and polishing up a couple of contact surfaces.

All springs are stock. Mine is my carry pistol and I do not want it any lighter than that.

I replaced my stock stuff with a scherer 3.5lb connector, and a glockworx competition spring kit. I purchased both from midwayusa.com for about 15 bucks. While I had it apart, I polished the firing pin, connector, and some other parts with a dremel and mothers polish. Now, my Gen4 glock 19 breaks clean and crisp at 3lbs on my RCBS trigger pull guage. With the spring kit installed, it eliminates the trigger travel and shoots like your using the trigger reset every time. If you are close to the south shore or willing to make the trip, I can put them in and give you a tutorial as it only takes about 15 minutes to do.

PS- FWIW, I was told if you replace any spring in a glock, then you should replace all of them. Having stock springs mixed with competition springs might cause a slamfire as they need to balance each other out. I dont know if it is accurate information, but I didnt want to risk it.

I keep all spring stock except the recoil spring.
I use a - connector on all my Glocks that require a slightly reduced trigger pull.

I replace the bumped Gen 4 trigger bar with a Gen 3 polished flat bar. The bump is stupid.

I also round the safety plunger so that it's less angular and more round.

The Glock factory connector works well.
The Scherer doesn't.
The Ghost does.

The ejector housing holds the connector at a slightly different angle. Glock has started shipping Gen 4 guns with a connector that has an angle somewhere between the 90 degrees of the standard one, and the angle of the restricted (not sold to civilian scum except in certain target guns) 3.5 lb connector. This is known as the "Dot connector" (there is a dot stamped on it) and is now shipping on Gen 4's. It sounds like you have an early Gen 4 which is known to have a slightly heavier trigger with the standard connector.

I don't know Glock's policy towards selling these dot connectors (I know they sell parts only to factory certified armorers), as they will give a below standard trigger pull on pre Gen-4 Glocks.

Mine has been perfect for over 2K rounds. When should I expect it to crap out?
By "work well" I don't mean failure.
I've had the Scherer in maybe 5-6 of my Glocks. They've all functioned flawlessly. I can't see how it wouldn't as it's just a piece of metal.
However when the Scherer was out of stock I ordered a Ghost connector and there was a noticeable difference between the two.
The Ghost was lighter and crisper than all the Scherer's.

I don't care so much about the trigger that I'd go back and replace all the Scherer's but I don't think I'd buy anymore if the Ghost were in stock.
The factory connector is also better than the Scherer.

So there's a 4th connector?

-, standard (non marked), dot, and +

Interesting. I always wondered why my 4th Gen was a bit tougher than the rest. Maybe i need to get myself a dot connector for it.

OK, I understand what you are saying now.

My only consideration was to get the pull down in the 5 lb range down from the nearly 8 lbs new. Yep, it was that heavy measured with a Lyman digital gauge.

The Scherer along with some polishing did it and I am happy about the result.

I used to not be able to shoot my Glock worth a crap (Derek can attest to that) but doing the trigger job, finally figuring out that the large backstrap actually makes the gun point where I look, and putting in almost 3K rounds downrange have pretty much fixed that.

just took receipt of Ghost Ranger 4.5 & their 3.5 connectors. my Gen 4 19 was measuring 6.5 - 6.75# with the standard, no marking, factory connector [frown]. i dropped in the 4.5 connnector and my trigger pull dropped to an average of 5# [smile]. smooth trigger pull, nice crisp break and reset nearly as good as stock. very pleased with the results on dry fire and on scale. dropped in the Ghost 3.5 connector, trigger pull down to about 5-5.25# felt mushy without that nice clean break and the reset was almost as bad as my M&P. hitting the range this AM. i figure after a few thousand rounds the weight could drop a little more after things smooth out a bit. my M&Pc is at about 4.5# consistently and feels just right for me. we'll see. thanks for the help guys.
