I can't shoot my g17 for crap, and I thought it was me. But apparently, the rear site is too far left. That makes sense since all my shots were going left. (Yes, I had another shooter try it out ). So, my question is, is it worth buying a site pusher and adjusting it myself, or should I look for a local gun smith to adjust it for me? I don't see myself using the pusher in the future, but I'm guessing a smith will cost as much as a pusher. BigMoneyGrip on GlockTalk has one for around $70. Other ones seem to be in the $100 range. I'm kinda torn. I don't mind doing it myself, especially if a smith will get it sort or of right.

Thanks

If you have regular sights on your G17, it could be a good timing for a set of night sights, since most gun smiths charge $100 for installation with parts.

You can drift the rear sight using a punch and hammer. Just make sure the slide is well supported, and you are using a non-marring or plastic punch.

Can you visually see that it's off center? If you are right handed and shooting to the left, you probably have too much trigger finger. Try adjusting your grip and how you pull the trigger. Make sure it's pulled straight back , and not pushed to the side (will make it shoot left if you are right handed). You can also trying shooting from a rest and see how that works out.

Thanks for the replies. Some answers for you guys.

* the sites are night sites, less than a year old
* I can actually see, from the top, that it is not centered and farther left than right
* I haven't used a rest yet. I did have a guy at the range try it, and judging by his targets an the way he was shooting, he was a good shot. All his shots went left too.

I'm 99% sure it's the sites. From what I've read, using a punch on night sites may not be a good idea.

Thanks

Well, things with Chuck didn't work out. Thanks for the offer though.

I ended up buying this pusher : http://www.sightpusher.com/

Simple, cheap, and pretty easy to use. I managed to push the rear sight back to center(ish). Took the gun to the range and pushed it a little more until it was dead on. Now I just have to learn to shoot a Glock! At least now I am not putting all my shots to the left, and I'm quite happy about that.

hindsight, Collectors in stoneham has the site pusher, he wouldn't have even charged you to use it. Can you return it after use?
Thanks for the heads up. Had I known, I might have done that.

I would feel bad returning it. Plus, I like to support small shops. It was $50 shipped, so it isn't a big hit. In any case, I don't really mind paying for tools that may be handy in the future.

Baz....I'm picking up my Glock this week (new night sights) and may need the adjusting tool...If I do, maybe I'll buy it from you?
