I know someone on this forum will know the answer, because there's always someone here who knows something about just about every firearm.
I just bought a Golden State Arms -Santa Fe Division "Mark IV 1941 Supreme" rifle from KTP. It's a remake of a No 4 Mk 1 SMLE, at least I think it's a No 4, but it might be a No 1 Mk III. I'll know better when I drag one of my original condition Enfields out and do a comparison.
Anyway, all that is original is the receiver and action. From what I've read on line, they got new (Parker Hale) 22" barrels, have new furniture including a stock with a nice cheek piece, Parker Hale open sites, and in my case an installed scope mount with 1" rings. From the look of it, it was pretty much a safe queen. Needs to be cleaned and oiled, plus I'll check the head space with my gauges. It's missing a magazine, but Midway has Pro Mag replacements for about $20.00 (dealer cost).
I know that they came with either a reworked or new 5 round mag, but those don't seem to be available, at least not from what I've been able to find out.
Golden State went out of business at some time in the '70s or maybe early '80s.
From on line research it seems that they made these in the '50s and '60s and they were sold pretty cheaply. The quality is generally rated as good, they have a reputation for accuracy, and the Supreme model is the top of the line. The receivers seem to have had all of the original markings removed and a new serial number issued. There are proof marks on the barrel, but since it was a new replacement, they don't tell me much.
I know that Golden State also made some "jungle carbine" replicas, but they were made from No 1 Mk III rifles and originally sold as replicas although in later years some people tried to pass them off as real.
The only thing wrong with this is that it's missing the safety bolt spring which is easy to buy and easy to replace.
That's what I know, so my only real question is does anyone have any experience with these or know any details about them?
