Gov. Deval Patrick says his bill

BOSTON — Gov. Deval Patrick says his bill to help control illegal handguns has been hurt by gun lobbyists and may not even get debated.

Politics is a dirty business and a win is a win so maybe we should all contact our house members and tell them we strongly support the house bill as slots at racetracks will create more jobs faster and then contact our state senators and tell them that we strongly support the senate bill as slots at the tracks are no-bid contracts.[smile]

Bill

I'm starting to think that was the plan all along. He was made aware of 2259, got scared, so he made the push for his own competing bill in order to draw attention/resources away from efforts to pass 2259.

Am I just paranoid?

This is Massachusetts, any political paranoia usually has a base in reality....

BOSTON — Gov. Deval Patrick says his bill to help control illegal handguns has been hurt by gun lobbyists and may not even get debated.

Patrick told reporters Monday that he believes members of the House are "feeling the pressure from the gun lobby" to oppose a bill that would restrict licensed gun owners to purchasing one firearm a month and strengthen the penalties against illegal possessors of guns.

House Speaker Robert DeLeo had assured Patrick the measure would come up for a vote, but with the legislative session winding down, that prospect is looking unlikely.

The bill is designed clamp down on so-called "straw purchasers" who buy guns legally and then resell them to convicted felons and others barred from owning guns.

Opponents say the state should enforce its already-strict gun laws, not add more.

Good, then the 'Gun Lobby' is doing it's job.

gun lobbyists? how about civil libertarians! O I forgot the second amendment doesn't count!

I bought three pistols at one time from the same FFL and you bet I got the ATF form filled out!! I was told I would most likely get a call from the ATF asking why I purchased so many pistols at the same time and might even have to submit to an inspection. I had just received my new LTC first in 20yrs and I was buying my collection back. Not the exact same guns just the closest models I could find if your looking for the reason. I never did get the call from the ATF but I have heard stories from those who did.

Exactly. But this angle of the story will never get reported. Spend-it-all Deval and the liberal media want the masses to think that by allowing lawful citizens to purchase more than one gun a month will lead to a continuous stream of mass shootings.

One gun a month legislation has done nothing to curb crime in VA, CA, NJ and other states. But you won't hear any references to those instances either.

If you want a better picture of the [STRIKE]drivel[/STRIKE] propoganda that the left is spewing regarding this issue, check out a letter that my co-worker got from his State Rep regarding H.4102:

Slots are held hostage Progress required on other bills
Friday, July 30, 2010 Slots are held hostage Progress required on other bills By Steve LeBlanc THE ASSOCIATED PRESS BOSTON — Gov. Deval L. Patrick offered Massachusetts lawmakers an ultimatum Thursday: Pass a series of stalled bills and he would consider signing a casino bill that includes a single slots parlor. Patrick has opposed allowing slots at the state’s racetracks, but now says he could accept a gambling bill with both casinos and one competitively bid slot parlor — but only if lawmakers first pass several key bills that have become bogged down. The Legislature ends its formal session Saturday night. “I am willing to consider that compromise if we get action to my satisfaction on all of these other bills,” Patrick told reporters outside his Statehouse office Thursday after meeting with House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray. Patrick ticked off his priorities, including an overhaul of the state’s Criminal Offender Record Information system, an economic development bill including a sales tax holiday, a small business health care cost containment bill and a bill overseeing the siting of wind energy turbines. “It is absolutely critical that we break this logjam,” Patrick said. “My willingness to compromise is not unlimited in either time or scope.” ... I don't trust him or them. Be VERY wary of them.

Uh-oh...

Legislative leaders on Beacon Hill have reached a tentative agreement on a bill that would allow both casino gambling and slot machine facilities in Massachusetts, according to a legislative official who has been briefed on the ongoing negotiations.

The deal would authorize three resort casinos and would allow the state's four racetracks to compete for two slot parlor licenses. The deal does not meet Governor Deval Patrick's demands. He said Thursday he would accept creation of one slot parlor as part of the expanded gambling bill, if legislators agreed to break a legislative logjam on Beacon Hill.

...

He said he was making the concession in exchange for quick action on bills addressing crime, health care costs, economic development, and a handful of other issues.

Handful of other issues = punishing law-abiding citizens with pointless laws....

And distract from the reality that this is a civil rights issue.

Saul Alinsky.

RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)

Until Sat. morning rolls around, I would keep up the pressure on them. I would not put it past them to sneak it in while everyone else is asleep. Would not be the first time.
Especially since he mentioned his bill and said "not enough time" Yeah, right, and he backed down on the casino bill, what does he get for that?

Slime balls.

They'll be in session tomorrow voting on the Casino bill, which Patrick is expected to veto as currently proposed. The scary part is the horse-trading that could occur tomorrow because Patrick wants HIS bills passed (read: One Gun a Month, plus others). So maybe he agrees to the legislature's casino bill IF they pass the gun bill, for instance. And it could all happen tomorrow while we're at the range or Home Depot.

I'm going to take my old letter from before, and hit "reply all", and remind them who they work for.
