The herd isn’t theirs it’s another local farm.

Gibbet Hill is very good (not amazing but very good) food in an A+ setting. It’s way too crowded though. I live in Groton and we rarely go due to how busy it is. Maybe 3-4 times a year.

    Went to Gibbet Hill today.
    Nice clean place
Ordered the NY Sirloin with maple glazed carrots and red bliss mashed potato’s (Both good)
Steak was tender and cooked perfectly.

Never had a bad meal. Grew up a few miles off the same road on Long Sought For Pond Rd in Westford.
Old stomping grounds. Knew every back road out of trouble.

Ladd's in Rutland still any good?

There was a place in Westborough in the plaza near the Ocean State Job Lot. It was like it was in a hallway. Just a little diner, but they had a great steak there, with all the onions, mushrooms, and garlic. Yum.

Otherwise, I like it at home on the grill with a grilled potato, plain salad, and Wishbone or Ken's Italian dressing and a slice of bread.

I've already picked out my cheat meal next week. A coworker and I are taking my predecessor to the Capital Grille.

    Kona crusted filet coming up!

I’ve met a friend who is a longtime oldtimer there a few times. He always raved about the lobster roll and busted a friends balls who owns a pub relentlessly up at Moosehead over them so obviously I’ve done the roll thing and typical burgers at lunch thing.
Never once thought of the place as a steak joint. Foods good, don’t get me wrong but the Bancroft it is not.

Totally agree the service, at least, can be inconsistent.

OTOH, we went there last Sunday, and there were tables by 8PM.

    Dear Abby,

I need to vent. I'm in a bad place. It all started innocently enough.

Yesterday I did some grocery shopping at Costco. There was a package of four ribeye steaks, weighing in at 5 pounds total, with superb marbling and amazing appearance. I bought them.

Last night I fired up the charcoal on the Weber, seared a couple of these beauties over roaring hot coals, and then used indirect heat to finish them. They were lightly coated in olive oil with a solid dash of salt and pepper before cooking. And I cooked them to a perfect 125-130°. Some of my finest work if I may say so.

My wife laid out the plates to present these beauties. And then it happened. One of the plates had a heaping pile of ketchup. Since we were having mac'n cheese as a side I knew this was for the steak. WTF???

I proceeded to wash the ketchup of her plate, refusing to allow my creation to be violated in such a manner. Let's face it, we wouldn't let anyone put extra paint strokes on a Rembrandt, nor take a chisel to "The Thinker" statue.

Don't get me wrong, I like ketchup under some circumstances. On french fries for example. But on a magnificent piece of ribeye steak cooked to perfection? NO EFFING WAY!

She replaced the ketchup in a defiant manner. I refused to eat in the same room, explaining she had just insulted my amazing artistic creation. Momentarily I considered cutting off my ear in protest.

So things are chilly here at home. I can put up with a lot but this new behavior is just beyond my ability to ignore. I've been grieving for the cow who gave up her life to provide that steak. She should have been treated with more reverence in death.

Thanks for listening, all. I'm really beside myself today with grief. It's just not right.

    Sincerely,

    Medium Rare in Massachusetts

Didn't they just get shut down after giving food poisoning to three people in one day?

I guess it was the antipasto that got people sick.
I went to the Newbridge cafe Saturday and was so good, had baby backs and tips
