I know, right? This doesn’t follow Gibson’s long tradition of well-conceived, nicely engineered, reasonably priced instruments...

Home made guitar case humidification system. Pill bottle drilled with holes and a wet sponge. You have to use light pressure when drilling the holes or you will crack the bottle. I then used a circular file for inside the holes. Then used the circular file for inside of the bottle and some sandpaper for outside. Cleaned it off with my air compressor. I made all different sizes. Depending on where I would put them in the case. The big one fits under the head stock and a medium size one fits next to the body of a Les Paul. And the smaller ones in the accessory compartment in my Strat case.

My best man gave me a gibson SG in an original chainsaw case. The guitar has had the headstock gorilla glued twice. Can't post pics because I am clueless as to how. He is repairing the finish on one of my chibsons and asked me to fix the sg. The wiring was in need of some tlc. He didn't like the neck shape and hardly played it. I took it out of the case and told him the neck was sweet (not fat or thin but in between) abd he said to keep it.

It was originally his nephew's who toured Europe backing up Robert Plant's band.

He told his nephew to call gibson and explain the situation. Gibson overnighted a new SG free of charge.

    Win, win.

    Fixxah,

So What is going to happen to the one with the broken neck?

Finally had a chance to do some work on the SG this morning and I am not sure how I missed it before but the fret cuts on the fretboard are all over the place. Some start here, some start there, some end here and some end there. Whoever cut these needs some glasses.

I am somewhat thinking of just putting a new fretboad on the guitar. I know I would loose the inlays or I can add some inlays before putting the new board in.

Anyone use heavier strings on their guitars with tremelos? I've used 10's on all my guitars for as long as I can remember. I have a strat that I've tuned down a half-step lately and am thinking I will probably keep it tuned this way long term. But I don't like the feel of the 10's when tuned down so am debating going to a higher guage. I currently have 3 spings on the bridge. At what guage would I have to add an additional spring? I never use the tremelo on this guitar so I always have the bridge set flush with the body.

Honestly, I think it’ll be trial and error. A lot depends on how much float you like in your trem.

I’ve never downtuned, but in general a heavier gauge would exert more pull. Another spring might be overkill, as it might deck your trem more than you like. My usual tweak is to just tighten or loosen the screws holding the claw in place.

You can screw the spring mount further into the body and run the outside springs diagonally to add more preload.

Why does it need new pups? I mean, does it need new pups? Or does it want new pups?

If neither is working, it could easily be some other kind of problem.

Neat guitar. I’d try to go much less, especially if the pickups really are tango uniform.

Actually, my GF talked to the "expert" and he said it needed $200 to get it back to mint? I guess I'm just assuming what it might need. I havent seen it yet, its at the good will store here for $800 but every 1st sunday of the month everything is half off! They said they had a guitar expert evaluate it? LOL

Lordy. An Epi at Goodwill? Will wonders never cease...

I’d tentatively suggest getting it at $400. I’d be shocked if it truly needs new pickups, though a wiring job might well be in order. That isn’t overwhelmingly hard, but it can be an intimidating prospect if you’ve never done it. Especially in an archtop.

That model is a Noel Gallagher special edition. The earlier ones were made in Korea around 20 years ago; after that, they made them in China for awhile. I think the Chinese ones have mini-humbuckers.

Go on youtube. Lots of good setup vids for trems.
My strat has the 5 bridge screws tight to the body. I hate trems.
