Gun Gurus...
I am itching to buy a new pistol and have procrastination fever. Today, I have a KAHR PM9, perfectly concealable and extremely accurate, low capacity. I have a Walther PPS, reliable, very concealable and low capacity. I have a great little Ruger LCR 38 special, nice BUG. I carry the 9's about 50/50 and the wheel gun as a backup. But.... what is next? I have some great little carry guns, but I must admit, they all look, feel and carry more like backups than a primary weapon. An LEO friend suggests a Glock in 40acp - higher capacity, great reliability, more punch. I am tempted by the M&P 9C or 40C, Glock 19, 26, and 27, the new Ruger SR9c, but whatever it is, I want it to be concealable, reliable, accurate, etc. A couple of good things about sticking with 9mm is that ammo is cheaper, I've got a bunch of it, and you can get more in the magazine. On the other hand, .40 gives me the ability to fill another ammo can with versatility. I like the sigs (LOVE the SIG Lite sights - Tru Glo-TFO's I think), but heavy and fewer rounds in the single stack. I prefer DAO or Sa/Da with one in the pipe, and a little queasy about riding locked and cocked with a SAO. Most of my carrying is IWB or in pocket. So... knowing my inventory... what would you be tempted to buy for a new carry gun?

1) I'd stick with one caliber, and for me that'd be 9mm. I'm moving out of .40 into 9.

2) Personally, my next one will be a Glock 17. I have no problem concealing it, but I know a lot of people might, so a 19 or 26 would be the way to go. JMHO.

3) If you live outside of a state with magazine restrictions, Springfield XDm

You have low cap pocket or small 9's already. M&P's if your not in a free state are out for hicaps.....

I'd go for a G23....you can carry it IWB without issue, (won't fit in pocket) and if you want to convert it to a 9mm buy a barrel. or get the G19 9mm if your staying 9mm.

G17/G22 might be too might be too big for carry depending on your size, but it's not that bad IWB...almost 3 season for me.

Honestly, in your case I wouldn't be looking for new ccw. You have 3 really great options (2 somewhat duplicate; PPS, PM9) and good wheel gun. I'd be looking for a FS gun that I could use for steel, pin, IDPA and USPSA. These events are much more enjoyable with a FS pistol.

The G19 on your list is close to FS feel and might be good. I would look at FS M&Ps over the compacts. Might consider a 1911 as it's always nice to have one around.

Ruger is coming out with an LCP type 9mm soon if not already...I'm intrigued by it. I've been carrying an LCP in my pocket since soon after they came out...I may have to spring for the 9 this summer. Waiting to see if there are any "bugs" in it.

I don't know if this is "acceptable" wherever you live, but this deal that hit my mailbox today from Widener's may interest you. I need another full-size 9mm service auto like I need a whole in the head, but this is damn tempting.

I picked a Ruger SR9C. They must be in short supply, because it has been about 12 days and it is still not in yet.

I picked one up a couple of weeks ago - IDC in Clinton had it in stock. Nice little gun with a surprisingly nice trigger.

I ordered mine from a local to me store in the Berkshires. I called another store around here, and they quoted me $60 more, and they weren't sure when they would be able to get one either. I already have the crimson trace laser for it, so I have been itching to get it in. I'm glad you like yours, makes me anxious to get mine. Glad to hear the trigger is good too. I was debating between this and an M&P, but the reviews of the trigger and price difference swayed me to the Ruger. Mind if I ask what you paid for it? I put in $445 including MA tax.

1911 by Auto-Ordnance or Colt.

Admittedly I'm far from a 1911 expert, but those seem like two strikingly dissimilar options. Why AO or Colt?

I've been very happy with mine, and like dwarven1 said it does have a great trigger. I lucked out & got mine @ Four Seasons during the special last year. $399 + extra mag.

As for the topic at hand, I think I'd be inclined to go for something full size. 1911, or maybe a G17. I would say FWIW that the SR9c trigger is IMHO far superior to a stock PM9 or PPS. Unfortunately, it's not really going to be a viable pocket carry option for most people.

Don't bother with the conversion BS. It's better to just get a G19 and be done with it.

+yup.

i recently sold a package to my brother for the same reason.

G23
.40 cal mags
9mm mags
40 to 9 conversion barrel
holster

i never shot .40 out of it except for carry ammo... [laugh]

edit: i will say it IS a great gun and good for those on a budget, IF you are stuck on .40 cal. also, the ability to swap to / from .357 sig. otherwise, stick to the 9mm and save the money for ammo, holsters or more guns (actual)

I would go with a Glock 23 or an HK pistol. Both are reliable and give you something different from the 9mm / smaller carry gun. I feel they are not too big to feel they are not as concealable but have a good solid feel at the range.

follow up: I ended up getting a G19 (still on it's way) and I just took my brand new M&P 45 C to the range on Sunday!!!! All I can say is wow! I was shooting the centers out of the targets in 1-3 inch groups at 10 yards - after drinking coffee - with the stock trigger. The guy next to me had a match quality Colt 1911 and was amazed at the accuracy of the M&P. I am still grinning about this pistol! I just got my MTAC IWB holster and it carrys surprisingly well. It's going to be my new IWB carry for sure. Now.. for some night sights.
