I've always wanted a top break revolver, and the H&R 999's really appeal to me. Are they decent enough guns, if I can find one in good shape? They were made in both Worcester and Gardner MA, is one location preferable? Anyone here own one? How does it shoot/how do you like it?

I've shot one before, and they are neat. I wish they still made these. What I'd REALLY like would be for some company to take this design, and improve upon it. Then make it in stainless.

Same. I think the break action novelty would do well in a market where there's few options in that flavor.

Imagine an awesome light alloy frame/body, and stronger modern steel where it counts. Throw in all the best ideas picked up over the years.

Heck, I'd like to see if anyone could come out with a striker fired revolver. Why not?

:-)

I'm kind of intrigued by those old HR DA/SA revolvers. I don't have any revolvers and I'd like one as a cool plinker. How do you guys think the 999 compares to the 929 and 922 styles? The top break is pretty awesome to be sure.

Honestly, most of the appeal for me is in the top break more than anything. Then again, the going price on the 999's is starting to get absurd in comparison to the other two, mostly because of that top break. If things continue heading the way they have been, you could easily be spending as much on a 999 as you would on a used S&W 617.

I wish that we could get the Russian MP412 .357's over here, that would satisfy my want for a modern top break.

True. The ejection is nice at the range. Got a chance to try one at a Women On Target.

Sweet. Someone should clone that! "Hello, Rossi?".
