Hey everybody. I'm a fairly new shooter, and I was just wondering if this was a good weapon to buy as my first firearm. I've fired 12 gauge shotguns before, so i know what the recoil is like. I was considering the shotgun because it is fairly inexpensive, about $150. If anyone has any info, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have 2 in .410 and one in 20ga. The 20ga was my first gun and you couldnt pry it away from me. I have shot ALOT of trap with that gun and it has been nothing but great! It does kick like a mule though [wink]

You should be able to find them alot cheaper than that though. They are commonly found for between $70 and $110

H&Rs can be had for much cheaper. I have a beat, spraypainted one I'd sell dirt cheap. But if you want to lay out $150, a used Mossberg is the best choice.

My H&R shotguns, 12 and 20 are my favorite turkey guns, light, point well, perfect for the heavy brush I end up hunting, and they kick like a mule.

I would suggest saving a little more money and getting a used Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. I think in the long run you would be much happier

Dick's Sporting Goods (and others) sell 870's very cheap, maybe the low $200's for the plainest model, during the fall.
I'd wait and watch the ads. $150 sounds like new MSRP (I didn't check) and most all guns are discounted from the retail price.

Check the web sites of shops that show their pricing. Four Season's (Woburn) A.G.Guns (Lowell) among others.

you can find a topper used for $50-75. i got mine free as it was a gift from my girlfriend's father. definitely has some kick in 12GA but that's part of the fun.
