Oh look another H4885 thread.

I know that section 44 of H4885 now prohibits FID Holders from possessing a semi-atomic outside of an officially incorporated club or licensed range. Must be under the supervision of an LTC holder.

But what about non-FID hunters, IE 12/13/14 year old's?
My kids 13 and hunts in MA under my LTC/hunting license.. Can he still carry his 20G Semi-auto?
Does anything in the new law prohibits anyone in MA without a LTC from using semi-autos or did they just ban FID holders?
The wording is weird.

I did reach out to GOAL for advice too but was curious what you guys though.
Also it sucks I have to worry about this crap.... We'll be hunting CT more this year... where he can carry his own firearms and has his own bag limits and license.

Not sure if this has gotten updated, but this is what I found:

From GOAL here:

Juniors

  • Bans youth non-resident hunting. (Under 18)
  • SECTION 45. Bans non-resident youth hunting. (Under 18)
  • SECTION 47. Strikes the section of the law for furnishing firearms to minors and aliens.

And this here:

Non- Resident Hunting:

  • Must register their firearms with the Commonwealth prior to entering the state.
  • Bans the possession of semi-automatic firearms (including rifles and shotguns).
  • Bans any non-resident under 18 from hunting in Massachusetts.
  • Non-residents, even those with a temporary license to carry, cannot purchase ammunition or ammunition part in the Commonwealth. (This has been the case since 1998, but was reaffirmed in Chapter 135.)
  • Any muzzle loader that uses a modern primer or other component will be considered a modern firearm, thus a license is required.
  • There is some language in line #1306 of the bill about hunting licenses: “The colonel of the state police shall determine those states with substantially similar requirements to those of the commonwealth for a firearm identification card under section 129C and a hunting license under section 11 of chapter 131 and shall annually publish a list of those states.”
