Hello. I am looking for someone to sponsor me because I am interested in joining HSC and I believe they have one new member meeting a month, held on the first Thursday of every month (tomorrow). I would like to join and not let another month go by or good shooting weather and having nowhere to shoot. Currently, the people I have asked have not had the time to assist me with this so that is why I am reaching out to a member of the NES community. Please PM me if you are interested. Thanks.

I imagine that several people here will step up, but in the end, just go to the meeting. There will be a ton of members there that will sponsor you if you just introduce yourself.

The BoD is getting stricter about actually enforcing the policy of sponsorship. Meaning you are truly supposed to KNOW the person you are sponsoring in. Not sure exactly how they will enforce it.

In that case, I'd be more than happy to hang out with my potential sponsor beforehand for a beer as my thanks. That way we can actually "Know" each other before hand so that we aren't breaking any rules. :)

Every member has a different definition of when they are comfortable sponsoring a new member. The by-laws indicate that members must present only people that they know to be "honest, industrious, ... good habits, ... contributing to ... the club's goals and needs." Kinda general. So it's up to each sponsor to decide for themselves.

Personally, I sponsor people after I've had a chance to be at the club with them and do some shooting. I understand that the actions of my sponsored members will bounce back on me, including any disciplinary action. So I'm careful; plus, I feel good about bringing-in good people that I've come to know.

Found one, thanks NES community!

I am happy to hear this. Harvard Sportmans is an incredible club, with great people. I hope you come to enjoy it as much as the rest of us.

I am taking a page out of Dan's book - If I am going to sponsor anyone I want to meet up with them. Have a good conversation, spend some time out on the range with you. After that if I feel comfortable I would be more then happy to become a sponsor.

The (seasonal) monthly breakfast or weekly practices are two fine ways of meeting members and getting a sponsor for anyone else that may come across this thread.

This is good advice, since we see one of these threads every months it seems...
