Well,

figured I would just tell you guys that I am sitting down here in Biloxi, MS in gulfport pounding a few cold ones and its 75 degrees right now on the Ocean.

I am down here for my Glock Armorer / Instructor recertification course. Its being held at the Gulfport Police Firearms Training Center. Work flew me down for recert. This is a definate boon doggle because its just a recert so I can play at night after class. :) Got the same Instructor as last time too. Great guy. He brought the Glock 18 so we can play with that also. fun, fun :) Class starts tomorrow so just got done sight seeing for a while and having some dinner at one of the casinos down on the beach. Man Katrina really hit this place bad. They are building all new condos on the beach to replace the ones that got leveled.

I have been to MS many times before but never the southern part of MS. Last time I was down this way was a few years back when I was in New Orleans with some buddies for Training but that was before Katrina hit. It really makes you appreciate what we have back home I tell you.

Every couple miles you see the pawn shops selling guns and ammo. Just coming back from dinner there was a flee market with a big sign that said, "Artillery for sale" Man too bad MA was not like that. LOL [smile]

anyways.... just thought I would say hello. I am out of my element down here. [rofl]

In two weeks I'll be doing the same thing in Florida. [grin]

The relaxing part I mean, not the armorer's course, or work paying for the trip.

It sure is different, huh? Being in Dallas, its weird seeing gun shops all over the place and stuff. Southern MS must be even better [smile]

oh hell yeah... every mile or so there is a gun store or an artillery flee market. I was in Arkansas about 6 months ago and it was the same way.

man them people in the south really know what the 2nd amendment means

BTW in case you did not know.... they have drive through liquor stores down here too. I am totally serious. [smile]

The schools are even pretty lax about guns, from what I can gather. I know my university has private lockers for students to store their firearms in.

I saw my first drive-through liquor store in Ohio, and I've seen a few down here. My mom bought me a beer (shameless, I know, but I was 16) once at one because she thought the idea was so funny.

I remember in Texas pawn shops sold liquor and guns. You could pawn your wedding ring and get a 45 and a case of beer.

ha ha.... yeah isnt is just so strange compared to MA and New England area in general?

I saw my first drive through liquor store about 10 years ago while in Baton Rouge, LA. I could not believe it. I had to try it of course..... of course [smile]

I want a drive through gun store!

I guess sending you to the Feb 3 class in Northampton, MA would have been a bit too simple, or required planning ahead enough to get an open slot. I'm sure you'll be a good sport about the extra sacrifice work asked of you with the travel :).

It's like that in a lot of free states, even today.

I think one of my favorite memories was driving in Ohio and having to fill up the car. We pulled off the highway at an Exxon or something. Across the street? A fireworks stand. Next door? A gun shop.

I was stationed in Gulfport when I was in the service in the 70's. The hottest, muggiest place I've ever been in the summer. During the winter when I was there it did get cold every once in a while. I remember a day that got down to 19 degrees around this time. It did not last and never any snow while I was there. Glad you are there while it is warm.
If you are able to take and post some pictures I would like to see if it still looks familair to me at all.

so you cant take the Glock Armorers course unless you are LEO, Glock retailer/distributor or Licensed professional security officer.

no other way? It would be an interesting course to look into!

So get a one day a week part-time job at some random security company, take the course, and quit. [smile]

was in biloxi myself three weeks ago to play in a poker tournament at the beau rivage. twas my first time ever in mississippi.

was in the 60's while i was there, but the strong breezes along the beach could get pretty chilly.

people were very friendly. not quite as friendly (imho) as those encountered on my visits to oklahoma, but way friendlier than boston folks.

had a great time. seeing how much damage still remains around the city from katrina was shocking.

yeah I saw that course but its not all about whats closest. Its also about what time we have free to go take a week and do a recert school. When that course is going on I am teaching class for our Officers 4 days out of the week so I cant just blow that off. This one in Gulfport was the only one that did not interfere with my Officers training I conduct. Besides...... who does not like a nice road trip? [smile]

basically that is correct. You must be LEO / Armed Security or a dealer. Glock has always been pretty strict about that.

When we we down in Texas it was drive through liquor, ammo, and deer feed. [laugh]
