Hi Everyone!

I recently found a black powder pistol amongst my grandfathers things. I did some google searches and found out that it is a replica of some Colt Firearms?

On the but of the pistol are the markings FIE Italy. with a double overlapping PP. Along the barrel, the cylinder and the action there is the letter PN and what looks like a crest. Below the cylinder in a box are the Letters AD.

On the cylinder is an old war ship scene. and engraved is ENGAGED MAY 16, 1843 (google revealed that this is the battle of Campeche)

Any thoughts on the worth of this? I'm not looking to sell so please don't ask, just curious of the it's value.

Any history on these types of handguns? Looks well put together, and everything seems to be in perfect working order etc.

Thanks in advanced!

Shakey

With out pictures it is hard, but I think what you have is a copy of a 1851 navy Colt. The one I have is in 36 caliber with a brass frame but they also come in steel frame and larger caliber. You can pick them up used with out being shot for around $150.Some people buy black powder firearms and never shoot them. Most of these firearms are made in Italy.
