I am looking to see if anyone can give me some insight on this pistol, it is a black powder gun and looks to be pretty old, but looks can be deceiving. I thought at first it was a Colt Navy but now I am not so sure (I thought Colts had the S/N stamped on the butt of the revolver). There are a few markings and serial #, but there is no makers stamp we can tell, just a lot of ornate scrolled etching along the brass, the barrel and to a small extent the cylinder. It might be a .36 we didn't have calipers to measure the bore.

Don't rag on the condition, it's not mine and belongs to someone I know (I covered this already with them). We were just trying to get some idea what it might be.

There is a stamp 'PN XXIV' stamped on the right side of the barrel:

The top of the barrel is engraved with 'FIG Navy' or 'EIG Navy' not sure which...

Thanks for any advice and information!!

Yeah that looks like it...nice finds!! It does not have a stamp at the base as the photos show but it's probably the same gun.

Wow... I knew this was the right place to come for info!!

I found this link after doing some digging around about how to disassemble it and give it a really good cleaning... I thought I would share (it's the last post at the bottom). I tried the advice and it worked great. (The OP thought, like me, they had a Colt...at least I set myself up for disappointment early [laugh])

Colt Cap and Ball Navy Revolver

Since this is a replica of an Antique, is is classifed by the ATF as an Antique ?

What does the State of Mass think it is ?

Can a Mass Resident own it without a LTC or FID ? I know you can't buy or own the Black Powder, Bullets (Balls?), or Primers (Caps?) without an FID.

Does it require a Safety Lock ?
