Don't know much about shotguns, but looking for oppinions on a good home protection shotgun. Brand, round capacity and tactical abilities.

Thanks

Have an old S&W 916-A pump with rifle sights. 12 Gauge, Cylinder. Sling holds 15 shells in addition to what is in piece. Think I have it covered. [wink]

Is the Mossberg Cruiser 18.5" 6 shot parkerized with pistol grip MASS legal? There is a dealer in NH who has some and says he can sell it to me but its up to me to find out if its MASS legal. He wont ship to FFL because he claims the AG is too much of a pain in the arse.

I can't see why not. It's tube fed & pump action so it doesn't fall into any 'evil' category unless it has a bayo lug.

Chapter 140: Section 121. Firearms sales; definitions; antique firearms; application of law; exceptions

“Assault weapon”, shall have the same meaning as a semiautomatic assault weapon as defined in the federal Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, 18 U.S.C. section 921(a)(30) as appearing in such section on September 13, 1994, and shall include, but not be limited to, any of the weapons, or copies or duplicates of the weapons, of any caliber, known as: (i) Avtomat Kalashnikov (AK) (all models); (ii) Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Galil; (iii) Beretta Ar70 (SC-70); (iv) Colt AR-15; (v) Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR and FNC; (vi) SWD M-10, M-11, M-11/9 and M-12; (vi) Steyr AUG; (vii) INTRATEC TEC-9, TEC-DC9 and TEC-22; and (viii) revolving cylinder shotguns, such as, or similar to, the Street Sweeper and Striker 12; provided, however, that the term assault weapon shall not include: (i) any of the weapons, or replicas or duplicates of such weapons, specified in appendix A to 18 U.S.C. section 922 as appearing in such appendix on September 13, 1994, as such weapons were manufactured on October 1, 1993; (ii) any weapon that is operated by manual bolt, pump, lever or slide action; (iii) any weapon that has been rendered permanently inoperable or otherwise rendered permanently unable to be designated a semiautomatic assault weapon; (iv) any weapon that was manufactured prior to the year 1899; (v) any weapon that is an antique or relic, theatrical prop or other weapon that is not capable of firing a projectile and which is not intended for use as a functional weapon and cannot be readily modified through a combination of available parts into an operable assault weapon; (vi) any semiautomatic rifle that cannot accept a detachable magazine that holds more than five rounds of ammunition; or (vii) any semiautomatic shotgun that cannot hold more than five rounds of ammunition in a fixed or detachable magazine.

I have not seen anyone mention the Saiga 12 semi-auto. Is there a reason?

Thanks,

Rich

Honestly I think it has to do with reliability, but I agree it would make a nice HD gun. Unless you've proven your Saiga works 110%, then I wouldn't want to rely on it to save you.

I'm still working out a few kinks in mine. [thinking]

Who says you need one... you can keep two shotguns with you...

I once heard, and it makes sense to me, that the best home defense shotgun is something like the Mossberg 500 in the simplest configuration possible -- a wooden stock, 18", NO pistol grip. If, heaven forbid, you had to use it, you want the jury to see a shotgun that looks like you just came back from a duck hunt, not some evil black pistol-gripped implement of destruction that Rambo might have used.

maverick 88 i have a old 5 shot one updated with a 18 inch barrel and pistol grip and i am picking up a new 20 inch 8 shot soon. i like the safety on the 88's better than the 500's and there near the same weapon.

Benelli M4...[devil2]

Now you're talking my language...I would love a Benelli M4...I almost bought one on a ProDeal through Dicks Sporting Goods, but I would have needed extra money to fund my divorce, so I ordered one of these:

They really are a great shotgun for the dough - short stroke, great sights, superb accuracy. People looking for an HD rif should really consider looking at one...

I have a Mossy 590A1 with a knoxx stock. You can see a pic of it in the other active thread, or the "show me you boomstick" thread.
