Just curious as numerous times I have seen it mentioned on the forum. I am wondering if someone can list out exactly how it differs from traditional 1911's (i.e. Colt, S&W, etc.).

Thanks in advance!

Jon

The main difference is it won't fit in 95% of 1911 holsters on the market. The slide profile is "wrong".

As Mike said, SIG uses a proprietary slide profile to make their 1911s look more like their P-Series guns. The only "advantage" of this is that now the SIGs won't fit in most 1911 holsters. [thinking]

That "target" model has target style adjustable sights. Great for target shooting, but probably not what you would want for carry.

I wrote up a long diatribe about different types of 1911s here: http://www.northeastshooters.com/vb...911-Opinions?p=2178435&viewfull=1#post2178435

"Target" sights, rail, firing pin block. From what I've seen the white dots on the Sig target sights will fall out over time.

Yes the Sig has a different top radius on the slide. It also has an external extractor which works quite well and is self adjusting. The slide is stainless and very hard(Ruger I suspect) The barrel and the internals are all bar stock and good quality. At 25 and 50 yards it groups better than most "production" guns. The few that I have had in for work were very good and functioned well with both HP and SWC target loads.
I wish the slide had the standard radius for better scope mounting, but with a little machine work a scope can be mounted on the slide.

Learned the hard way on it. My sig nightmare is an amazing gun, but will not fit in any of my leather 1911 holsters, only kydex ones.

I would have expected the reverse -- that it would fit in the leather holsters but not the kydex.

My Target is perhaps the finest M1911 I've ever handled.

Don Hume makes a #721 holster (pancake OWB style) for this pistol.

It fits in a crossbreed and a serpa with NO issues, all the leather, including a newer one from TT gunleather, the fit is VERY VERY tight. I'm going to wrap it in plastic wrap and let it sit in the TT gunleather one and see if I can mold it a little by letting it sit in there.
