How many 45 ACP brass in an ammo can?

How many 45's will fit in a 30 and/or 50 cal ammo can?

According to this thread a 1 gallon bag holds 890 pieces of .45 brass. 1 gallon has ~ 231 cubic inches, so 1 cubic inch equals ~ 3.853 pieces of brass.

Calculate the volume of your can (L*W*H) and then multiply by 3.853. This should give you an approximate count on brass.

Fixx, empty brass.

Loaded 230gr round nose:

700 in a 30 cal can

1100 in a 50 cal can

3200 in a 40mm can (too heavy)

I reload in increments of 100, so you may fit a handful or so more in there, but not another 100




Edit: Oh, you said empties.....

I had 1500 stored in a 50 cal ammo can.

I don't have enough to actually fill a 50 cal can, but ran the numbers and figured you could get about 1400 in there. If you shake them to get better density, I can see 1500 being valid.
