Just curious as to how many uppers would work on a single lower? Assume I would have to purchase a bcg for each caliber of upper. An ar10 wouldn't work because the magazine wouldn't fit the magwell correct? Thanks.

One at a time.
Your question is vague and any caliber could work depending on how much work/money you put in. You can get 50BMG and 308 uppers for a standard AR15 lower.

Thanks, captain obvious. (Wise ass remark deserves wise as remark)

Ok, say I just want to grab an upper off the shelf and slap a mag full of ammo in and go play. How many calibers could I do that with, without out having to modify the lower any?
- Todd
For magazine feed, any you can get mags to work with, and upper parts to match. For loading each round like bolt action, you get even more options.
How about checking to see what your choices are??
Magazine feed ranges from 22LR through 50 beowulf.
well...there's 300BLK...5.56...the new HushPuppy round from the shot show...those are all on the 5.56 platform.
Ok, I was just being lazy. Was hoping someone had figured this out and could give me a quick list. So basically if the mag fits, then I won't have to change any other lower parts? Cool. Thanks.

This is a trick question. If you don't use the mag well you can can chamber it in any thing. I've seen belt fed conversion uses parts from a pkm .
you can also get into replacing the entire upper and then a whole load more calibers are an option such as 5.7mm and .50 BMG, etc.
basically if you can dream it, someone's done it on an AR.
Why stop there? If you replace the upper AND the lower you can chamber a 20mm Vulcan.

Sure, here's a link.
And being a lazy feller today I just realized Attila copied it here for us. Thanks.

Thanks, you saved my lazy fingers some typing. That first link had a pretty impressive list. What I gathered is if I can dream it, it can be built.
