obviously we pay premiums for guns like glocks, kel-tecs, LCP, etc. but I am trying to get a general consensus on how much is too much. I am looking for a P3AT which goes for under $250 in most other states, but never that low here, even used. So how much would be too much for this gun?

It all depends on how bad I want it. Some I wouldn't buy if it was at free America prices. Others I would pay way too much if I really wanted it. Only you can determine what is way too much.

I wouldn't pay above retail (or retail plus shipping)l. To me that seems fair. If a dealer is going to bring it in for you, the already inflated retail prices (MSRP) should cover it and give them enough profit.

reailise in the example you give, $250 is probably the discounted sell price, not the MSRP, (i would guess that is probably $299-ish).

Supply and Demand. If you don't buy it, someone else might.

As others have said, it's what you think it's worth.

You actually might cherish it more if you paid more for it.

Capitalism.
Put a price on it. If someone wants it bad enough, they will pay it no matter how insane.

Exhibit A: Glock 19, $500 approx outside of mass. on NES $700 or more because people are willing and have paid that in the past. If nobody would buy things at that price, the price would drop to more reasonable levels. But people keep paying.

Depends on how badly you want it, and how fast you want it... that's what it really comes down to. In the past I used to pay a lot of MA overprices, and still might do so if it's not that far over gunbroker median + transfer. Nowadays I'm never in a rush to get anything. Some of it is because I don't have as much money to spend on guns, but some of it is because I know that if I am more patient I will usually find it at a lower price. On the last few handguns I bought, I didn't pay an overprice on any of them, and they were all pretty much new in the box. One thing to keep in mind is the economy is bad, and people get desperate. This means there are lots of deals to be had.

Realize that, it being a NON-AG approved gun, a MA FFL cannot lawfully transfer it to you. Therefore, s/he is NOT "going to bring it in for you," still less sell it at "the already inflated retail price."

I was thinking in terms of something on one list but not the other (e.g. Glock). I was not thinking specifically in terms of AG list vs other list. But, in terms a new and generally available (in production) gun, I would not pay over retail. I know, I am cheap. Possibly unrealistic. But, I just can't bring myself to do it. And I would not (ask or) expect an FFL to violate laws and potentially lose their FFL and business doing anything stupid.

Still wrong.

First, there is no "AG list."

Second, if it's not approved by the AG, the dealer can sell only to LEO's as a duty-authorized weapon.

Leaving your premise as flawed as before.

Possible, yes, no, not really, academic..

However, the fact still remains. I will not ever pay more than retail for any current production firearm. It is against my sensibilities to ever pay more than retail for anything.

patience is on your side especially in the economic climate, gotta realize you don't need
a toy like this that bad. don't let the falsehood of necessity get out in front of you.

I draw the line myself. I really WANT all sorts of non friendly guns, but what do I really NEED. I agree with drgrant, wait, look, talk to people, check serial numbers of guns for sale on Gunbroker, see if they will legally transfer into MA. You will be surprised what you can pay for H&K's and Glock's. Last Glock 21 I bought I paid $450.00, pretty much 99% in the box..........

Dealers really don't make much money off new guns.
