Inhereted A few firearms from my inlaws and am now going through the prossess of identifying them and transfering them. This rifle has me at a loss. I can not figure out what it is. I'm hoping someone here will help. Looks to be a small caliber. I think some sort of mauser but i'm not farmiliar with them so thats a guess. Its in good shape and looks to be complete and in original condition.

Let me know if I can add more pics to help or answer questions. Thanks.

Arisaka Type "I" model. The Type "I" was produced by Italy for Japan and was basically an Arisaka with a Carcano action

Thanks to sevenMMmag

But having a hard time finding much about it. Keep getting directet to the typy 99.

The split down the length of the buttstock is an Arisaks giveaway. A Beretta Arisaka sounds interesting.

from my book: an Axis agreement in 1937......exchange of industrial help.....6.5MM......60,000 total rifles.....production completed in 1939.......serial numbers given a letter then a 4-digit number (so yours sounds like mid-production with an E)....
