What is your ideal acquisition strategy that takes into consideration your interests as well as potential trends in the MA and the US?

  1. Buy as many inexpensive lowers as you can to "get in before the lock (er, ban)"
  2. Buy pre-ban lowers (or preban lowers+uppers) to modify as you see fit
  3. Buy new, good quality ARs
  4. Buy a couple of Saigas and convert them
  5. Continue finding mil-surp M1 and Mosins
  6. Go full retard, get the machine-gun license, the NFA stamp, and have a party!
I'd love to do 5, but is probably not realistic from a budget perspective.

If there is some sort of AWB reestablished, will you be able to buy uppers for your soon to be "pre-ban" lowers?

It seems like the Saigas and other C&R guns will still be there if/after something happens, removing these from a potential priority list and putting them on the "buy whenever you find a good deal" list.

What is your long-term acquisition strategy?

And how about those of you who don't suffer from ADD and exhibit some form of premeditation in their purchases?

The tinfoil comments in the original post are something of a joke and intended to shape discussion rather than predict certain doom.

If your just starting to panic buy now, your too late!

Why buy a house full of lowers??? the cool part about an AR is they are modular so really only "need" 1 or 2

If I could get a MG permit I would already have one, but my PD will not issue me one.

you only "need" 1 gun and ammo, everything else is extra. I buy what I like for the reasons I like, most of them being at least 65+ years old

No, not a panic buy. More of a considered strategy. I know that all prices are up, everyone is on backorder. I imagine that prices will come back down by January or February. I came into the game late. I came from Utah/Oklahoma/Alaska where things were just a tad different. After being in MA for 12 years I finally decided to face the idiocracy and recently obtained my LTC.

As you said, I have all I "need." Rather than just buy whatever is shiny, I'm evaluating strategy. Those who had machine guns before the ban are now making a very handsome return. Is there a parallel to be examined?

I'm pretty sure I could get one in my town. When issuing me the LTC-A he said, "B is just too much of a hassle. Might as well go all the way to A and just enjoy it." I've been reading about the new BATF forms that don't require police chief signature. Would that help you? Getting the license is the easy part for me. The hard part is getting the gun. I found a nice H&K MP5 but they only wanted $19,500 for it. Not gonna happen for a couple of years.

Yeah, and when are we going to go shooting the Mosins at Harvard? You were pretty proud of your Finn last we spoke!

Rather "suffer" from ADD than paranoia! ;)

My ongoing acquisition pattern is milsurps & C&R & trades & bulk ammo & ... Ooh look! A chicken!

(Sing with me...) A. D. D., it's as easy as 1, 2, Oh look, a plane!

Alternatively as my son came up with:
O. C. D., it's as easy as 12345678910!!

Unless you have specifically asked about your MG permit in MA, not assume your PD will just hand one out. My town ONLY issues LTCA without restrictions, my interview was nothing more than $100 check and finger prints and the PD is VERY friendly in making it a no hassle process. On the other hand, when I inquire about a MG permit it was the complete opposite and I was told they was NO need for me to have a MG permit..... CLEO sign off going away would help for items like SBR's but not for purchasing a MG as simple "possession" in MA requires a permit

PM inbound as well

The nice thing about guns and gun related stuff is that the depreciation factor is so small. It's like buying a Harley. Just buy everything you can, and if you find you don't need/want it, sell it.

You have a point. Unlike my car this stuff won't lose 25% driving it off the lot, and 75% in the first 5 years.

Seeing that I'm still new to the owning firearms (less then 2 years) I'm still just trying to check all my wants and needs off the list. What started as a 3 gun want list has expanded into a 20 gun need list and a 5000 gun want list. I better win the lottery or I'll never be able to catch up. Going forward (next year or so) I see my self buying another AR15, my first revolver, some .308 bolt rifle, and maybe a 1911.
