Here is off beat question. I belong to the Westford Sportsmen Club and was shooting Friday night at the indoor range. I wanted to light a cigar, but I didn't as I wasn't sure if it's allowed. I know the danger of fire and the smell of the cigar, but think about it your shooting inside. The fan will suck out any smoke. What do other clubs say on this?

Don't do it, for a couple reasons. First, there is a lot of unburnt powder on the floor. Don't believe me? There is probably a broom and a metal dust pan at your indoor range. The next time you are there, sweep up some of the dust into the dust pan, then take it outdoors. Carefully drop a lit match into the dust. Wooossshhhhh! [flame] Open flames combined with indoor ranges are bad juju.

Second, while shooting, you are putting lead dust into the air and it is getting onto your hands and face. If you smoke, you will be significantly increasing your exposure to the lead. When you're done shooting, leave the range, wash your hands and face. Then you can smoke.

Third, most gun clubs ventilation systems are not all that powerful. The smell will reach the rest of the range and bother the other shooters.

I i was at AFS a few weeks ago on a friday night and it was packed the ventilation fans weren't doing a fantastic job pulling the smoke out so i cant imagine it would have pulled the cigar smoke out very fast either
