I'm looking to join one club or the other. I've been shooting trap at Nimrod on Thursdays over this past (I wish it would pass, anyways) winter so I've seen the trap and skeet fields and the clubhouse, but I don't know much about the setup of their other ranges. I know that Rutland has indoor pistol, and I've seen pictures of their outdoor range but I'm not sure how up to date they are.
Basically, what I need to know is, how are the outdoor ranges at both clubs setup and run? Ideally I would like somewhere that I would have the flexibility to shoot at multiple targets spread out to some degree, and with some flexibility on distances (Assuming that I would be there with people that want to do the same or I am there alone). Ideally I'd also like to be able shoot steel targets (Gongs and knockdowns, I have AR500 of both). The club I belong to now (Woodsman in Athol) has a very tall 180 degree berm and I usually have the place to myself, but it's a pretty good haul from my house and it's super bare bones (No FMJ on indoor range, 75 yard max distance outdoors). It APPEARS that Rutland is set up with fixed distances with limited shooting space at each distance (Small, scattered backstops from front to back of range).
I'm going to join one or the other eventually no matter what, but it's a tossup at this point because I really like the trap and skeet field at Nimrod and the people there, but I'd also like an indoor range which I don't think Nimrod has. They're both pretty much the same distance from my home and work. The decision basically comes down to how much flexibility I'd have on the outdoor range. When it gets to be lighter in the evenings I'm hoping I can pester someone at Nimrod to show me the rest of the grounds on Thursday, but for now I just want to get a general idea from anyone who knows about either club. General pros/cons of either club in general are also nice.
Thanks for any info you can give, I appreciate any and all input!
