I have a bass-pro edition 10/22 (fiber optic sights and no barrel band)

Just picked up the Uncle Mikes sling swivels recommended in the LTR thread. My questions involves installation, where is the best location on the stock to mount them? Do I basically just drill holes the size of the studs or should I go one size smaller and crank them down?

Thanks in advance.

The directions with my set gave the drill bit size. I used whatever size that was and it worked well. I followed the directions for the location as well and that worked out fine too. The biggest thing is to make sure that the holes, especially on the forward sling, are straight and don't go off at an angle.

Did you use a guide such as the one from B-Square or did you create some kind of jig?

I dug out my trusty old Sears drill press/holder for my 3/8" drill. I made sure I had the stock square and drilled slowly. Taking my time was the key as I tend to rush these things.

I did mine with a power hand drill and no jigs. On the butt stock I drilled a pilot hole far enough from the end so as not to worry about it cracking. I eyeballed it to the middle. Then at the forward end i came in about 2 inches from the end. Again making sure you're far enough away to avoid a split. This hole I drilled the size of the screw. In the barrel channel I reamed a little so that the "bolt" sat below the channel. I think I used some loctite too.

You definitely need to counter sink the hole in the forward stock. I think the directions recommend the drill size for that. If you use Locktite, use the blue kind that can be undone. The red is permanent.

Thanks for the responses guys. My buddy helped out with it and we got it done. Good enough for this weekends Appleseed in Mansfield. [grin]

Sorry for digging up an older thread, but could use some advice that pertains to this. I used blue locktite when mounting my studs only to find signs of moisture under the laminate exactly where the studs are. Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone know a good fix for it? The areas where the moisture caused the laminate to bubble have the bare wood of the stock exposed; the laminate has came off. Unless my issue is a complete fluke I would suggest one not use locktite.. it messed up a beautiful (although normal factory) stock. [sad]
