I just bought a M&P 45 from my local shop. I just got around to field stripping it and cleaning it and found this new gun filthy inside. Lots of lead/powder residue inside the frame, mag well, the barrel was pretty dirty(took a lot of patches to get it coming out clean). The thing I noticed most was copper striations on the barrel riffling.
I emailed them asking if this gun was possibly taken for a test drive before putting it on the shelf as the all my other guns I've bought never were this dirty or exibited these types of wear marks. I know factories throw a test round through it but the amount of residue I cleaned was cause for convern.
Please look at this pic and tell me this is normal for a new gun to have the barrel look like this.
My M&P9c which I bought at the same time was clean as can be and the barrel has no wear marks.
I'm not going to mention the shop as they called me today telling me in no way would they sell me a used gun new. I told them I wasn't convinced and would bring it by for them to look at.

When I purchased my first M&P I experienced the same thing. When I contacted S&W I was told that they do not "clean" the gun after test firing it, they only blow compressed air through it.

They could have just shot it a lot at the factory. Maybe the gun had issues, and they sent it back and shot it 2 or 3 times during the process of making it right. You put a half a box of ammo through the gun and it'll look like that.

That looks pretty normal to me. Shoot it some more and see how it works. If there is a real problem, then I'd start complaining.

There is no such thing as an "unfired" gun coming out of most gunmakers these days. The only guns that likely never get test fired are collectors models and that sort of thing.

Every new gun I have ever bought is the same way, clean it and move on.

Mine looks like that. I've only done 50 rounds through it.

Better than my highpoint 995. Did a cleaning before any shooting and they must really test fire them at the factory because the barrel and chamber were filthy. They must have used the dirtiest, cheapest stuff at the factory.
