Need help identifying/locating a part for my above mentioned .22 bolt action rifle. The part is a thin piece of flexible metal that guides the bullet into the chamber from above. It snapped off many years ago and today i finally had the nerve to drill out the pin allowing me to remove the barrel from the receiver. The part in question is circled in the photo below. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

So, I've done a little research and i believe what i need is a cartridge guide spring. Maybe i'll make some calls tomorrow but if anyone has a source on these old parts, still not turning away help.

Nevermind, just found it on Ebay. Thanks!

$7.50 was .33 cents in the 1955 manual, oh well inflation.

Dude!! You helped yourself. The best way to learn, is by experience, you just found a whole lot of it.[thumbsup]

Funny thing is, i've owned this gun about hmmm, 30 yrs and i think i broke that spring, hmmm about 20 yrs ago lol

Now if i can just find out where this other spring goes on the trigger...

I am refinishing one right now
you must know by now it is really a Marlin model 80
very nice simple trigger mine shoots dime size groups at 50 yards from a bench

Real cool that yours is wearing a JC Higgins scope.

As far as the rifle: I've got one too. Great shooter. Best $40 I've ever spent. (Added the Weaver 4x later.)

Yes i found the parts searching under Marlin 80 but i wasn't sure tbh if it was an 80 or one of a number of models that seem similar.

Mine has the tubular magazine, Model 81 I guess.

I've fixed several old-ass .22lr bolt action guns over the years. It's a challenge to find parts sometimes but the process is worth it once you find what you need. They're so easy to work on.

Do some searching for Model 80/81 trigger mods. You can use a spring from a pen to lighten up the trigger. I did the mod along with some polishing and have a 2lb trigger that breaks like glass.

You have the only other one I have seen with a blond stock. Does it have darker mahogany end pieces?

Mine came with the original JC Higgins scope, which I shelved for an old bushnell banner (Japanese) scope. Of all my guns, this bolt action is my favorite to shoot. I run CCI Quiet 22 through mine and I can spend a nice quiet time shooting out in the woods with no hearing protection blocking out the treating birds.

Negative on the endcaps. Mine is only a blonde because I sanded down the stock to remove some scratches and refinished with some tung oil and poly. Reshaped the bolt relief and free floated the barrel as well.

Well, part arrived from Numrich today and she's all back together and cycling like when i bought her. :)
