I love the look of Pre 70 series Colts. This upgrade was for a Gulfstream pilot. On top I installed an XS small dot front sight, a Novak style rear by Kenight. The slide was French cut. The original barrel was welded up and refit to the slide. An EGW bushed was fit the barrel as well as a a long nose plug to match up with the thick bushing. The extractor and FPS are EGW's. The frame was reworked with a new feed ramp at 31.5 degrees and a new VIS. The frame was checkered at 25 LPI by "Metalsmith". A new 25 LPI MSH was fit and blended to the frame. The internals are a Warner sear and a Wilson hammer, disco is a EGW. The GS is Smith and Alexander. The original thumb safety and slide stop were used. The trigger is a Grieder speed trigger. The finish is blue with grips by John Hoskins in Texas of Walnut burl. I hope I get a ride in the jet.

Beautiful work. I really like these pics of your 1911 work. Thanks for posting them regularly. I bought my first 1911 a couple months ago and love it - I can already tell this is going to be a long term expensive affair.

Question - do you range test finished products? If so how much of a work out do you give them? A few magazines? One magazine? 50 rounds? Whatever the customer requests?

awesome custom job.

the colt name is like the gold standard in the 1911 world.

much like my Harley, there is no substitute for the best.

( after you machine and replace half of the parts [smile] )

Another very nice pistol. But I am curious about one thing.

The slide was French cut.

I've never heard this term before (in guns at least). What does it refer to?

The "French cut" or "French border" is the fine line that separates the slide flats from the round area on top, it creates a distinctive shadow line. It's just one feature which makes a custom gun stand out for some clients.

*drools*

I'm usually the guy saying "leave it alone, its a gun, it looks fine!" but I'm a huge fan of this one. At first glance its close to stock, but if you look closer its got all the subtle but distinct upgrades that make it epic. No gold triggers, no two-tone, no jazz.

Beautiful.

I am as impressed with the photo work as I am with the pistol work! Do you take the pics yourself?

Pat thats all trick photo work Mr Derr is a photo master also. That gun is actually a rusty chiappa 22lr clone!!![wink]

Sometimes its hard to decide whats better the gun or the photo? Well not really but im glad Mr. Derr does both so well.
Thank you for posting Mr. Derr like to see some of our dreams come to life.

Thanks guys, my son Nick and I shoot the pictures . He likes to jazz them up with props from the owners.

I was reading to the end wanting to say how your pictures are outstanding.

It's not just the props, do you have high end camera equipment?
