John Ross, author of "Unintended Consequences" died April 30, 2022

This post from Indiana Gun Owners forum is informative:
Being a Democrat from a certain era, and being "liberal in many ways", can mean taking the same stance as many libertarian-leaning Republicans today.

There was a time when being "liberal" meant supporting liberty and rights.

RIP, John. What a great blend of history, drama and inspiration you put together in a book. Indeed the world is a lesser place now. I'm putting the eBook here. Mods, please remove if there are copy right concerns.

Thank you! Much better than the $89 price on Amazon and eBay.

I'm re-reading it, and I'm at U.S. v. Miller.

While it is a fictionalized and dramatized version of an historic event, Ross gives Heartsill Ragon way too much credit.

Reality: Ragon was't sympathetic to Miller. In fact, he was part of the conspiracy to create this case and fast-track it to SCOTUS. He favored a total ban on private ownership of handguns.

I knew the book started out as a highly dramatized semi-autobiography, before veering into a dark future many of us have thought about. There are many similarities between Henry Bowman and John Ross (aerobatic pilot, skydiver, self defense handgun instructor, enthusiast of big-bore guns). Henry's father and John's father were both named Walter. IIRC, John's ex-wife was named Cindy, and reportedly shared many traits with Cindy Caswell (including a preference for women that led to their amicable divorce).

One of John's sisters lives in NH.

As for resemblances, Henry Bowman's month-long African safari was John Ross's actual safari. Including the Rodda 4 Bore double rifle.

You forget that in the land before time some democrats were actually normal. Go to a square state 20 yrs ago, most dems were pro gun in those places.
Absolutely

1994 AWB was not supported by the majority of Democrat voters especially in the south. This hard split with dems and the gop has happened over the last 15 to 20 years or so.

John Ross described himself as a "Pre-Roosevelt Democrat: a Democrat without the Socialism".

I hope he didn't mean he was a Woodrow Wilson Democrat: a Democrat with all the racism.

I'm reading the book now as well. Wonder why Ross changed the ragon story? He easily could have told the real ragon events.......as the book is basically about government corruption.
