Guys, I had the chance to shoot a fellow member's AR15 yesterday. We both have Bushmasters but man his trigger was sweet! It was a Complete JP Fire Control System including the Speed Hammer. I just ordered the kit and am going to give it a go myself. If I get in over my head I'll have them install it... but it looks very managable.

Anyone do one? Have one? I couldn't believe the difference between my stock trigger and his..

One word of caution -- once you get a JP Fire Control System you'll never go back to a stock trigger again.

If you have more than one AR, the second gun may get jealous until you give it the gun equivalent of a boob job too. [smile]

PS The Oversized Anti-Walk Pins are the bomb!

Lugnut,
Does the JP require fitting or is it a drop in?
What is the price for the unit?
TIA, Jack

Jack,

It doesn't require much fitting... and it doesn't require ANY mods to the receiver. It looks like the most "fitting" would be to the disconnector. I'm gonna give it a shot. Here's the link. I bought it direct from JP.

I only have one so I'm safe... but I can see the trend.

Guys- a few rounds with this trigger... the next day I'm on the phone ordering one. Can't beat a nice trigger... to me it's almost the single most important thing in a gun.

There are two JP triggers - one is discrete parts, and the other is a "drop in module" that may require some minor adjustments. Since John Paul is into the 3 gun action competition (USPSA, Superstition Mountain and many others), his offering is a single stage. If anyone wants to check out a CTR-02 or a JP15, I can meet people at Hopkinton Sportsmens (www.hsasports.com

Both triggers are excellent units, however, my personal preference would be to send the lower to JP and have him install the traditional unit with individual parts.

I suppose I should mention that my opinion of JP could be considered biased since I take care of his web site and on-line sales system, however, I am very confident that I speak the truth when I say that these triggers are great and the people behind the company are of equally high caliber.

Rob- I don't have the drop in module and can't wait to get it installed. Nice web site and my limited experience with just a couple calls has been just perfect.

I have one. The instructions are great. They are actually on a DVD on which J.P. walks you through the installation process. I think there was one part to be fit. As Darius said, I did end up having to buying the oversized antiwalk pins. You might as well order those if you didn't already.

Yep- the kit I ordered has them, as well as their hammer. [wink]

Since you are familiar with JP triggers perhaps you could answer a question. Do the JP triggers use a full power/standard hammer spring? I am interested in a new trigger for one of my ARs, but I also use a DPMS 22 LR upper with this unit and have found that you can't reliably ignite 22 rimfire ammo with anything less than a full power hammer spring.

I did the original site and all the back end/database work. A graphics artist worked with JP and myself on all the fancy drop down menus and new look and feel. JP was great to deal with, and a class act all the way.

I don't know, but if you email johnpaul<at>jprifles<dot>com, you will get an answer. (Let me know if you don't and I will call him).

The ones for the AR have a lighter hammer spring (yellow) that they say will reliably ignite primers. This combination yields 3-3.5lb trigger. If you want to use the stock hammer spring you will get a 4lb trigger.

My bad, I should have been more specific, the one week turn around time for JP to actually install one in your actual lower shipped to him.

I've had JPE install its Fire Control System on two of my ARs. The first one took just over a week in their shop, and the second took a little longer, perhaps two weeks.

Outstanding craftsmanship!

We won't do a Dawson job on it, will we?

Congrats on your purchase. Now there can be no good excuse for failing to beat Gene at a carbine stage, can there? [wink]

[rofl] A "Dawson job".... I love it. I'll be careful. I must admit.. .I love shooting the most, reloading maybe second... tinkering might be tie for second... so a screwed up sight is just part of the gig. I might just try another front one for my M&P .40 again!

Now... I think I'll be a little careful with my AR lower! [rofl]

EDIT: PS- I couldn't be happier with the 10-8 rear and the Dawson fiber optic on my M&P 9mm... it's like heaven.

I've been looking for a trigger upgrade for my AR-15, and after the testimony on this thread, I think this may be the one for me. I have a couple questions perhaps someone may be able to answer.

One, I'm not mechanically inclined, so I don't think self installation is the best option for me. Is there a gunsmith in the Boston/Metrowest area you can suggest for the installation, or should I send it to JP and have them install it? What does shipping normally cost for that?

Two, will this trigger interfere with the reliability of aftermarket uppers? I'm also looking to put a .22LR upper on the rifle.

Thanks, fellas!

Tony, I'd just send it to JP- call them for details. I called a couple times with questions during my install and they were very helpful.

FWIW I just finished my install last night. I think I did a pretty good job but it took me quite a while because I kept rereading the directions and watching the 30 minute video they provided. The most tricky part was timing the disconnector. My backup plan was to send it to JP if I ran into any problems.

The important thing for me is I now have a nice smooth clean break. Before it was horrible. I can't wait to try it out on the range!

You guys are killing me. I can't stand the OEM trigger on my Bushmaster. I haven't looked at JP's web site yet, any estimate on what they would charge to do the work on a new trigger?

Yeah the OEM trigger stinks. Here's the information you want:

The install price is a bargain if you aren't comfortable giving it a go yourself.

FYI Bushies are small pin. [wink]

Actually, there are two JP trigger units. The one mentioned in the previous post is the discrete component unit, and the one I would have installed if JP was doing the work (and on my guns, he would be). $220 installed.

If you want an excellent trigger where most of the fitting is done before you even install it, get the modular unit - http://jprifles.com/1.4.8.3.php $279.95, not installed.
