I just shot my first 1911 up at manchester and it was great! It was a S&W model. Now I guess I'll have to get one. So my question to all you 1911 enthusiasts where do you recommend I start out? Any specific brands? Im looking for something that is good to go out of the box. Thanks!

Colt and S+W are a good place to start. If you find a place that rents, try a few different brands. Glad you see the light!

Kiss your bank account good bye!! Ask me how I know???

I shot my first 1911 two weeks ago and somehow this appeared in my safe?? Also my bank somehow was debited 900 bucks?? I think when you shoot your first 1911 this appearance disappearance thing automatically happens? Strange how this works? At least that's how I explained it to my wife.

Really denpends on how deep your pockets are. Shoot a few and see which one you like the best. Read up on 1911 stuff and know what you are getting into.

Wilson Combat
STI
Colt
S&W
Sig
Para
Too many to list

Earlier in the year I borrowed some of my dad's guns to see what I liked and how they all felt to me. I made the mistake of borrowing his WWII era Colt 1911A1. I shot it, and I loved it. Since then I have picked up a Colt National Match Gold Cup 1911 (5"), a Colt 1991A1 (5") and earlier today I bought an Smith & Wesson 1911ES (4.25") that I intend to use for carry. I cant wait to get the new ES to the range!

All great guns, but now my bank account is crying.

The 1911 has always felt the best to me and I always bring them to the range.

Do a lot of research and learn all you can about them. They are not cheap guns by any means. I see so many nice 1911's that I would love to have but just can't afford haha. You may not want to check out Wilson Combat unless you can handle falling in love with a gun that is anywhere between $2500 and $5000+. But they do make great magazines and other items that are cheaper haha.

My S&W has never so much as had a hiccup unless crap ammo was used. It only gets my reloaded ammo with cast bullets. I have a bunch of JHP for pumpkins though. Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm definitely going to do some more research and start shopping around. I tend to be an S&W guy so its good to hear they make a solid model. Might go the used route initially, but I will have some pics up as soon I do.
