Loaded up a bunch of guns today for some range time with a friend. I was trying to shoot the recommended 200 rds break in period that Ruger suggests. I got througha couple magazines and couldnt hit the broad side of a barn. I looked and my front sight was barely hanging on. It had shifted from the recoil. I returned it to center and tried another mag and my rear sight was so loose it almost fell off. I tightened the rear sight but it didnt really tighten anymore. So i disgustedly put the gun away. I know the Ruger fans will say call Ruger they are great about customer service and i do get that . Just wish i could have gotten a shootable gun right from the start. Juat a quick vent

I've never and likely never will purchase a gun that has a 'required break in period' to function properly. A gun should function reliably right out of the box - especially one marketed to be a weapon that you may need to save your life. Loose, failing sites are totally unacceptable and no amount of 'excellent customer service' would quell my pissed off meter. That's a bullshit excuse for shoddy workmanship and shoddier quality control. Period.

que the ruger appologists. but... but... but....

I had the same front site issue with mine, so it went back to Ruger after less than a month and only about 300 rounds. A month later the firing pin fell out. Sent it back to Ruger again and they sent me a replacement which I promptly traded for another gun. It was a very frustrating experience.

Mines a week old, rear site lossened almost immeadiatly. No issues with the front site thus far but I will be checking it closely tonight!

Both a close friend and I also have LC9's and they have been flawless from the beginning, both our sights are fine, but I have heard numerous reports of others with this problem. I used to frequent the Ruger forum and read many stories with the same issues...

I never heard anything about the break-in period, I even read the owner's manual, must have missed that part, haha. I can say my LC9 has been perfect from day one, but noticed my SR9 definitely got better with more rounds

Yes. My SR9c loosened up and broke in beautifully around the 400-600 round range. The gun gets better and better. It is extremely well made and it looks the same internally as a Glock. Have you put any new parts in your SR9? I know it has the regular recoil spring rather than the Dual Recoil spring the SR9c has though.

I have not done anything to it, if I'm going to spend money on a gun for parts etc, I would want to do a trigger job on my LC9, but I haven't looked into that yet...

You have to send your trigger assembly to Galloway because Ruger shut down them down by stopping shipments of trigger parts. The SR9c trigger is a zillion times better than the LC9 so I'd do that too. Polish the barrel [wink].

You can always trade or sell it if you're not happy with it. I see some for sale at FS and they go quick, probably to someone else who doesn't know about their triggers or if they like the way it feels. You can send the trigger assembly to Gallowayprecision and have a trigger job done which will lessen the pull and travel.

As much as the G26 gets talked about everywhere and the hype it gets, it is a phenomenal CCW and really lives up to its hype. Either way, think about a new LC9 trigger and if you still don't like it, look into a G26.

I sold mine because there was an issue with the primers bulging and scraping filings into the firing pin channel, causing a failure to fire. Sent it to Ruger, but it had the same issue when it came back. It seemed to happen with Aguila 9mm FMJ ammo, which I will concede is inexpensive, but I was never able to trust it after that.

To be fair, I did not have any trouble with most of the other ammo I tried.

But I have never had any problem with any other 9mm pistol being finicky like that. I think there is some issue with the design, where the combination of primer bulge and sharp firing pin hole cause this issue. They said not to use that ammo, but how could I be sure some other ammo wouldn't have the same issue when I really needed it to work?

That sucks that you got a dud. Apparently you aren't the only one. As was suggested, you can probably sell it for a $50 loss. They do go pretty quickly. You may want to do that before the S&W Shields start showing up. They might hurt the market for LC9s.

I have been happy with mine. I haven't had any of the issues that others have with the sights. I did do a Galloway trigger job. Between that and having to pay for a spare mag, the effective cost of the gun is up about $100, but since I only paid $329 for my LC9 on sale, I still can't complain.

But, if you can't trust your carry gun to work EVERY TIME, then it is worse than useless.

The only function problems have been with FTE's using cheap Speer Lawman FMJ ammo. It has worked flawlessly with bulk Federal and my carry ammo.

Good luck.

I definitely agree, I haven't gotten out of work early enough to contact Ruger. I did submit an online claim. I am sure they will get back to me. They really do have good support. I don't want to be a hater because 10/22s and LCR 's are great guns, but this one has been disappointing. I will be selling this gun even though it had only two mags through it and I went and bought two extra mags. So I am gonna get hosed, but I will wait till they make it right because I would never want to sell a faulty gun. Thanks again guys . great info!

You're welcome. And 10/22's aren't great guns. They are perfect guns, minus the stock trigger. But that is easy to fix yourself. Ruger makes excellent firearms and has great customer service. You will get the help you need.

The LC9 is the definition of "disappointment".

It's too bad they just didn't downscale the SR9c somehow, instead. Way better trigger. The SR9s are almost a glock knock-off. [laugh]

I sometimes feel like I'm the only one without a problem with my LC9. I have about 300 rounds through it so far so good.

I wonder how these compare with the Kel-Tec P11 and PF9. I like the look of the P11, but I guess the PF9 is smaller.

Of course, the Kahr wins everywhere except price.

To be honest, this is the first complaint I have read on this gun, and none on the LCP. I only wish they could make a 9mm somewhere between the P3AT and the P11, with those looks, and not all the goofiness of the PF9. Oh, and add a decocker.

The LCP is supposedly a great handgun. If .380 suits your needs then I'd say go and find one. The PF9 is ugly as hell and not too reliable. The P3AT is known to be a jam-o-matic with tons of threads with FTF and FTE's. Do some homework and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for Coyote33. I can't see myself buying a PM9 because of the price, I'd rather just buy a G26 Gen4. But the LC9 is a nice looking 9mm but the trigger is such a turnoff to me. Sorry for the rambling, I am half asleep and have to be up at 5am for work. Talk to you all later NES.

If anyone has a LC9 with a trigger job and belongs to Mass Rifle, please send me a PM and try and let me give it a try. I'd appreciate it and supply you with ammo.

You're not, I've got probably about 500+ and no issues.

Same here, no problems at all with mine (besides the long trigger)
Shoot it more.... 300-500 rounds IS NOT a fair example of how a firearms performs. My M&PS or pm9s ( or anything I've ever carried) has 200-300 rounds through each time they go to the range

I'm not saying your going to have issues with your lc9s, but a few hundred rounds is not a good example
