Les Baer Customs New CMP service rifle

I'm a huge Les Baer pistol fan, and that makes no sense to me.

You could have a top name guy put together a gun with a Kreiger barrel, young bolt, matched RRA receivers and a Geissele trigger for less than that.

or one of those crazy tubb space gun style match rifles! heck 3200 you could buy 1 upper from each of the top 3 service rifle upper builders?

I just thought this was expensive for a service rifle.
but at least he throws in the lead weights.
LB claims 1/2 moa 10 shots?
I'm happy with my RRA service rifle which I have put 10 rounds @ 100 yd from the rest to a bit over 1" several
times.....take the rest away and I'm not that good.

I have Les Baer AR. Without too much trouble I can shoot groups from the .15 to .25 range. I couldn't do it consistently with my White Oak or Krieger barrels. Granted, I didn't pay $3,200 for mine, but if I have the money and tested the White Oak, Krieger and Baer on the same day, based on the groups I would buy the Baer.

Ok so what model do you have and what did you pay ? what are you useing for ammo? Im really curious to see what les bear does so different to get sub 1/2 moa groups.
Then I look at his match rifle NRA-Match2.jpg for only 200 more. What am I missing are these sights "cheap" vs some of the match sights?

The model I have is a super varmint with a 1/12 twist. I bought it used but at the time they were in the $2,200 range new. The best loads are ones I make, but Black Hills had some 52 or 55 grain loads that shot almost as good. As for their test groups, I think they use a return to battery rest in an underground range, taking all human error and wind out of the equation.

high end plastic handguard.

Your posts suggests you don't quite understand service rifles. There is a free float tube under the handguard that allows a shooter to use a tight sling and not move the barrel.

Ha. I wish the tubb guns were $3200. They're up around $7500 now.

Sorry, I was wrong. The Tubb 2000 (now the McMillan Alias) is up around $10,000 without even any extra calibers. Crazy.

But back to the Baer. If it will shoot .25 MOA, there is no reason to own a bolt gun.

jeezazh I swear when I was looking at them in 2011 they where 3200?

true story - I didn't know that. Thanks! Back to my corner [banana]

They can charge $3200 for a Service Rifle because there are those out there that will pay it. I may think they are fools, but that doesn't mean they won't buy it. I don't even think the rear sight is pinned on the LB.

That price is easily double what it should be.

The rear sight is just labeled hooded national match. LBC labeled parts on most of the other stuff. No claim to any special treatment to detach rear sight.
I did find out that they test their 1/7 twist barrels with 77gn federal GM match and 1/8 barrels with 69 FGM match. She didnt answer me if the 2 5 shot groups where the 1st ten shots or 2 consecutive groups or even if they had a limit of groups before the gun is returned to the line.
