Years ago - like 1980 or 81 - a friend of mine gives me a bayonet as a gift. (in the crowd we were running with at the time, a gift of a knife is basically saying "You're my brother". We're still best friends 45 years later and he's been my best man twice.). I don't have a rifle for it, but hey. It's a gift, and I keep it through the years and cherish it.

Fast forward to 2005 when I find NES. Couple of years later, probably sometime in 2007, Scrivener posts that he's got a Springfield M-1 for sale. CMP gun, 1953, all Springfield. (y'all would scream if I told you what I paid for it, so I won't.) I buy it. Nice gun... I like it. I named her Betsy and take her to my first Appleseed Shoot.

Some time later, I remember the bayonet Fitz gave me and start wondering if it'll fit... lo and behold, it's the RIGHT bayonet for that late an M1!!!

Sometimes the universe works in amazing ways. I still have both rifle and bayonet.
