A thread on 3rd gen G19 in classifieds made me think this may be useful. All data is from the excellent Glocktalk Serial Number Research Project compiled by dmobrien2001 (www.glocktalk.com, under general glocking/valuable info threads).

Format is 3 letter serial prefix (i.e. the ABC part of a ABC123US serial) - the manufacture date (= the test firing date on shell casing supplied with new glocks) - the generation - any other note such as non-US purchase, police dept use, LCI (loaded chamber indicator) etc.

This list should not be considered complete as they are constantly adding to it over glocktalk, but anything with a serial higher than the bottom of this list was probably made after 10/21/98, and anything lower won't be 3rd Gen.

Thanks Bugieman. If you feel like helping the serial # project by posting that info over at Glocktalk I'm sure they would appreciate it as the only CFK they list is a 2nd gen G-23C (alternatively with your permission I can post your CFK data over there for them) [grin]

Just a question for anyone who can answer. I have a G23 which I purchased back in '91 or '92 while still in the Marines in NC. Obviously it was manufactured prior to 10/98, but is the serial # alone enough to show validation that this gun is MA compliant if the "issue ever comes up"? I returned home from service back in '93. Since the gun was already purchased in another state, there was no registration process involved such as the one when purchasing the gun from a dealer here locally. The only requirement I had at the time was to get my LTC.

Pardon me for my noob question, but I've out of the shooting scene for quite a while and have not paid much attention to this. My G23 has been in a safe and has not been fired in almost 10 years. Thanks.

There is not reason it should ever come up. The preban glock issue is just for dealers. Even now, a guy who lives in NH could buy 100 post-ban glocks and move to MA with them and it would not be a problem.

I just grabbed this over at glocktalk when doing my research on a g29 with a prefix of NRV

edit:not sure if info is relevant but it does list all the prefix's and dates in post 2-15

That doesn't work, or at least not with all of them.

I have a G26, PZX?

Call Glock at 770-432-1202 during business hours, and tell them you want to find out when your gun was made, they'll look up the serial # for you and tell you over the phone.

May I ask if it matters if the glock is pre or not....You an buy a post ban and just buy a pre ban mag....Is there any benefit to a pre-glock?
