An acquaintance of mine has inherited a Llama 380 from his late father. It's nickle plated, built on the 1911 pattern and in pretty good condition. He asked me how much it might be worth and at first I scoffed because I didn't know anything about Llama and thought that they were more imported pieces of crap.

I've come to find out that they were actually pretty well made and well regarded at the time. From the Youtube videos I've found of other similar Llamas it field strips much like a 1911 only it doesn't have the barrel bushing that comes out externally.

Does anyone have any idea what this thing might be worth? No box, no papers, one magazine.

I had a blued model and they are excellent little guns. Inexpensive but well made.

The nickel version is probably worth $325 tops in the condition you describe.

As you can see, I added some pictures. I went back to take another look at it and brought it back to my place to field strip and clean. It comes apart pretty much as a 1911 with a couple of minor differences. From doing some research and looking at the proof marks, this one was built in 1979 or 1980. It was proofed in Spain, as all guns are required to be, in 1980, but I don't know how much of a time lag there is while that's done.

Your price estimate is in line with what I've seen elsewhere.

I think it's worth a little more with that engraving on the slide if that was factory-done. I don't think I've ever seen a factory engraved Llama though. I'm no expert on them of course. Looks to be in nice shape!

I don't know where the previous owner bought it, but given that his only other gun was a S&W 32. revolver made in 1893, I don't think he'd go to the trouble of having this one engraved. It's a Stoeger import, so maybe they ordered them that way.
