I'm hoping to keep this local, (within New England), but I'm looking for a complete ground up restoration for an old .22 target rifle that belonged to my uncle who was a match shooter back in the 1950's, (First Army Rifle Team). I had originally slated this rifle to be refinished in Texas, but finally had it shipped back after the person doing it, got backed up - no harm no foul, but I want to get this done right.

It's a Winchester Model 75. It was completely customized by my uncle at Springfield Armory back in the early 1950's - along with his match Garands, (which my father sadly sold in 1972...[slap]). I want the entire gun restored - from the stock, to the sights, to the trigger guard, the homemade trigger stop - everything. It's not in horrible condition, but it has seen better days after I rescued it from my fathers basement...[thinking] The trigger my uncle customized by the way is nothing short of stunning - even still. The 1951 Unertl scope is going off to Parsons, after the closing of Unertl, but the rest of the rifle I would like done here...I'll never sell this gun, so I am unconcerned with devalue - I'd like this to be a testament to my uncle.

I wish I were a "money is no object" guy, but I'm not. However, I'm also not looking for a refinisher on the cheap either. If anyone has any positive experiences with any New England refinishers, I'd appreciate the help...[cheers]

What type of "refinishing" are you looking for? Reblue, refinish on the stock. Check out Jojo's gun works in Southington CT. If you endup taking the ride let me know Ill meet you there, ans I am there often.

Wow I was looking in my safe the other day at my uncles old Winchester model 75 and thinking of fixing it up, it was stored in an attic for many years and has some rusting and the finish on the wood needs to be redone also looks to need a firing pin as that was the reason it was left in the attic for many years. I am going to keep an eye on this thread as I might want to get it fixed up.

Mark, Great endevor. Awesome Rifle. We used 75's and Mossberg 44's in smallbore compitition years ago. Slick Willy had all those destroyed. They were still Gov't property.
I would do it yourself, or take parts to locals. Stock would go to a Custom cabinet shop, Bolt, barrel and action to a local smith. What ever you do, take pics of all the parts before hand. Don't trust anyone. Their has to be a good Smith between Albany and Springfield. Check Bennington Vt also. Lots of great craftsman there. Jim
