Im looking for a fixed carry handle upper, basicly I found a great deal on a stripped lower and a DD LPK, so pretty much i want to make a barebones AR, no hightech sights, no multiply rails that never get used.

I just want an AR that is all go and no show, ive been checking out LMT, Nov, and BCM but everything i am finding are flattop uppers. And im not a fan of those removable handles cause IMO its just another thing to get bumped and takes away from the sleekness of an AR with those huge knobs on the side.

I have a DPMS one -- model #BA-A2AS-16P (that should be the AWB OK version). It's a nice upper and while basic certainly gets the job done. It's also very light without all the "crap" that usually finds its way onto ARs :)

Midway carries them but currently shows them as out of stock.

Steve - not sure where you are but I too have DPMS A2 16" carbine upper - I'll let you test drive it if you like - it bangs as well as I can drive it - if you love it, it's for sale

PM if interested

Ive been looking all night (what happens on a thursday and no money for the bar)

I found some that i have an interest in

The A2 style from RRA but the thing is I want a middy on a 16 inch barrel which that gives me. So
Also i took a look at the Armalite uppers and they seem reasonable but then again from what ive seen on the internet they are on par with like dpms, then again they are chromed lined and i would have to settle for a carbine.

Im thinking of going the route of putting togeather my own to the specs i want, the cost might be a little more upfront but i get what i want.

I want a SHTF gun that will take some serious abuse and buying a Colt 6920 is way to much money right now,

But these are the specs im looking for

Chrome lined
1:7 twist
A2 sites
middy
16inch
battle comp muzzle brake
stock at this point no idea maybe a magpul thats been pinned

If it's an SHTF gun the LAST thing you want on it is a fixed carry handle. It cripples you for optics, etc. When you go to add optics you WILL say to yourself "why the f**k did I do this?". I have a nice colt preban.... which is poisoned by that frigging fixed CH upper it has on it.

The only reason I would ever buy another one like that is if I was building a repro rifle or a gun that was only ever going to be used with irons. I guess that might be what you plan on doing... but think long and hard about it.

Having built an upper I can say that it was very educational - I know very well all the parts of my rifle - that said the upper is pretty friggen simple - the trick is putting the pieces together

BCM makes a pretty good upper
The chrome lined is a good upgrade - the middy is smart for the sight radius
1:7, 1:9 whatever it takes

The stuff on either end can change quickly enough - a well balanced long arm fits between the hands comfortably

I know what you mean a friend has a preban colt like you do and it sucks to shoot that thing with the scope he has mounted on the handle, then again i can get over the fact it has a those knobs and just strap a handle on when I want to. Then i just run a complete rear sight and a fixed front sight. probably be easier to find what i want that way

To the OP-- are you looking for a stripped upper or something complete? Try Delton or Bbushmaster for a complete upper, or perhaps find a used receiver from someone that converted to a flat-top, and build your own.

Mike, If you dislike the fixed CH on your Colt why not swap it out? That's what I did to mine.
