Hello all
I am thinking about having my Winchester Model 70 re barreled. I am very paranoid about shipping firearms so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a gunsmith in Maine or New Hampshire for this job. thanks in advance for any help.

Is it a target rifle or a hunting rifle? L.P. Racine will do target and hunting rifles. I've had Larry do a couple of M70 barrels for me.
Warner Tool Company. I think they will only do target rifles. Not positive though. There first two hits in Google for "gunsmiths in Maine" shows guys with lathes. Have not used either of them though. Al and Larry have both done work for me.

Thanks. It's a hunting rifle that will see some paper punching. Good gunsmiths seem to be a dieing breed nowadays

If you're in central Maine I'd just call up the two places from google. Have a chat with them and see if it sounds like you would be comfortable with them putting a barrel on. It's sort of specialized work. I talked to one guy in Raymond about ten~fifteen years ago and he said he has only had two or three people ever ask to have one rebarreled. A lot of guys do it as a side job and they are busy just by word of mouth so they don't advertise.

Talk with Paul Gauffin or Eric Rantamaki at State Line Gun Shop in Mason, NH 603-878-2854 They can also do it. You should see the custom Savage 99 they are nearing completion for a customer. It is abolutely gorgeous. They re-stocked it with a custom piece of walnut with checkering and they are having it re-blued. Awesome fit and finish.
