Looking for a new holster

So a few years back I bought a Safariland GLS 578 holster to go with my P320 X-carry. I recently traded the P320 for a P229 Elite, and was pleased to find the P229 also fit into the Safariland holster. However, after a few dry-fire drills the holster simply broke: something in the retaining mechanism seems to have snapped, and now the P229 won't even go in. So I need a new holster. I like the GLS restraining system, but I'm reluctant to get another of this model holster when this one broke this way after fairly light use. On the other hand, I've looked at a number of holsters in stores and online, and I have some pretty specific desires:
  • OWB
  • Right-hand draw, from the hip position
  • Obviously it has to fit my P229
  • Retention level III - I'd prefer something with a pushbutton release like the GLS, but a strap is acceptable if the holster otherwise fits
  • Something I can put on and take off without having to take my belt off
  • Oh, and not too expensive; my budget is quite limited
What are my options?

Thanks.

As far as retention, forget the button and not sure how a strap is available on a kydex holster. Adjustable retention on the trigger guard is more than adequate for most situations. For lower price stick with paddle type.

This one fits the 229 slso

Good luck

If I was you, I would check out g-code and KT mech. Both have solid options, and their prices are fair.

The other day a guy who needs a holster said to me, "Why can't I just have someone who works with leather make a holster for me?"
