Newbie here going for my LTC in Boston. I’d like to shoot a bit more to practice for my Boston BPD test at Moon Island. Are there any places close to Boston that will let you rent and shoot without a membership or license? The only place I know of is Smith and Wesson out in Springfield but that is kind of a hike for me. Thanks.

The firing range above is located right in the heart of Boston (1483 Dorchester Ave.) Although the website is junk, the people are great! It is definitely a little old fashion with a lot of history. It is right off the redline, there are no gun rentals and rules are strictly enforced( which is a good thing) but all members are really friendly. I have been a member for 3 years. If you take the basic firearm course you get $50.00 off your membership. I would visit several Gun ranges before committing! Good luck!

For renting, you can also go north to Manchester Firing Line (NH) or south to American Firearms School (in North Attleboro, MA). From Boston, AFS isn't all that close, but it's still closer than S&W, I think.

I am going to look into Boston or Braintree once I have my LTC but for now I just need to rent somewhere so I can get some practice in for Moon Island.

I provide this service at Braintree R&P Club.

I was just at American Fire Arms school in North Attleboro about 30min out of the city, I live in JP. Spent two hours there and had a great time. Felt very safe everyone acted appropriately. Found out one of the instructors was an old teacher of mine. Prices weren't too bad and the shop was pretty good. I will be returning soon. The Manchester range is def worth going just to see the full auto rifles and mini gun.

Highly recommend American Firearms School (North Attleboro, MA) and Manchester Firing Line (Manchester, NH). AFS has great teachers, open to the public, nice assortment of rentals, and pretty cheap. Easily reached by I-95 or Providence Highway (about 30 min from Boston). Manchester Firing Line is a definite must at least once in my book. Eye-candy (gun-wise) everywhere in their new range. Great rental choices, brand new facility, and on-site gunsmith. About the same driving time as AFS, maybe a bit longer depending on traffic.

Thanks for this info as well. I'm in Rozzy so it is closer than Bob's for me.
